Secret Service ‘clearly not happy’ with VP Harris’ impromptu Pride walk, but Twitter users notice more

Vice President Kamala Harris surprised thousands when she participated in a large Pride event in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.

Harris brought Second Gentleman, Douglas Emhoff with her, but it was her Secret Service security detail who stole the show.

The vice president, husband Douglas, and her detail joined the festivities where they walked for about a block towards the Capital Pride Walk and Rally according to local station, NBC4 Washington.

One of the Secret Service agents protecting the second family was captured in photos looking very serious, not to mention nervous, as he donned a two-tone blue bowling shirt and aviator sunglasses.

The Vice President delivered brief remarks to the crowd, saying, “We need to make sure that our transgender community and our youth are all protected. We need, still, protections around employment and housing. There is so much more work to do, and I know we are committed.”

George Conway, lawyer and husband of former senior Trump official, Kellyanne Conway, pointed out on Twitter that Secret Service was “clearly not happy” with the VP’s public walk.

This comes as no surprise, as the agent’s sole role to protect Harris and her husband is significantly more difficult in a large, open air crowd where conditions are constantly changing.

Users took to Twitter to commend Harris’ agent for his service, some even praised his fashion sense.

One user wrote, “Appreciation post to the secret service guy who was ALWAYS by @VP’s side”.

Another added, “The @VP loves to talk to the people and the secret service seems very nervous about it. Thankful she has such vigilant protection.”

Many more added that they were appreciative of the VP’s detail, one saying “Grateful for #BowlingShirtSecretService. Thank you to all of you who protect @VP”.

Someone else observed the agent’s efforts to try to blend into the crowd, “The secret service agent trying not to look like a secret service agent, looks soooo much like a secret service agent. [laughing face emoji]”, while a different user quipped that the agent had the “secret service face DOWN.”

Another user observed the agent’s uncanny resemblance to comedian Bill Hader while one user joked that he “Was on his way to go bowl when he got called into work”.

Others noted that they never knew the Secret Service’s “fashion sense was so good”.

Earlier this month, President Biden issued a proclamation in recognition of the nationwide Pride events.

Harris’ casual appearance at the Pride event followed her first international trip this week to Guatemala and Mexico. Harris was criticized for not visiting our nation’s southern border during her trip to Mexico as illegal migration numbers continue to surge.

The Vice President is no stranger to people fumbling her name, but Mexican President López Obrador made several protocol errors during their meeting.

“Welcome, Presidente Kabala,” Obrador appeared to say in the video below.

Obador got Harris’ title wrong; used the incorrect masculine term presidente when addressing her; he didn’t formally welcome her to Mexico, saying only mucho gusto (nice to meet you); he got her name wrong; he failed to address her by her first name and surname and he wasn’t wearing a face mask although she was, according to Mexico News Daily

Obrador later responded to criticisms of his reception of the Vice President saying, “It was a very good meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris. It was so good that I called her ‘president,’ I got it wrong, … I’m not infallible.”
