Chris Wallace hits Trump for not pursuing lab leak theory; Lewandowski says former boss was ‘tough’ on China

Fox New’s Chris Wallace grilled former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski over the former president’s early response to the pandemic.

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Lewandowski rightfully dismissed the notion that then-President Donald Trump did not pursue the ‘lab leak’ theory, despite Wallace’s persistent questioning suggesting that the former president didn’t do enough.

“If he was so concerned about the Wuhan lab, why didn’t Mr. Trump do more to investigate it?” Wallace asked. “Why didn’t he do more to put pressure on the Chinese when he was president?”

But the context surrounding Trump’s early response to the pandemic is vitally important to understand why he made decisions that he did… or didn’t. A context that Wallace appears to ignore as the media has done a complete reversal on the possibility of COVID-19 leaking from the Wuhan lab over the past few weeks.

Lewandowski shot back at Wallace, “The question is, when President Trump said we believe that this originated in a lab in Wuhan, and the media by and large dismissed that, and even Jonathan Karl of ABC News came out  and said the media had egg on their face for dismissing the potential claim of what transpired.”

Wallace persisted with his questions about why Trump did not pursue the lab leak theory. However, as Lewandowski pointed out, for over a year the media painted any suggestion of the possibility of a lab leak as “lunatic conspiracy theories on the fringe.”

As late as March 2021, CNN continued to act as if the lab leak theory was ridiculous, likening it to “something out of a comic book.”

Never mind that COVID-19 reportedly originated in Wuhan, China, home of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a level 4 biosafety lab that just happened to be doing research on coronaviruses. The prolific message in the media amounted to “move along, there’s nothing to see here.”

Wallace continued his questions, insinuating that Trump downplayed the threat of the virus and said he praised President Xi of China early on in the pandemic.  He asked, “if he was so concerned about the Wuhan lab, he had the opportunity as president, why didn’t he get tough with China when he had the opportunity?”

Lewandowski explained that Trump was listening to what the media has defined as the “experts” like Fauci someone who was “lifted up” as the “foremost expert on this matter in the world.”

“First, he said masks would not be needed. Then he said banning flights coming in from mainland China were not necessary and now we know, Chris, that Dr. Fauci, through his government agency, funded at least $800,000 of government taxpayer money to the Wuhan laboratory,” he said. “So the question now with all the email coming out from Dr. Fauci is what did he know and when did he know it and did he give information to the president which we could have used to prevent a series of these deaths of occurring?”

Speaking of hindsight, we now know that Fauci was informed as early as January 2020 that COVID-19 appeared to be “potentially engineered.”

“This president, President Trump was very tough on China. We put a series of tariffs on their products so that we could compete on a global scale. We also found out, Chris, that because of the inadequacies of the previous administration, we were completely unprepared when it came to finding PPE equipment number the reason being everything was manufactured in China so through operation warp speed and the retooling of some plants here in the United States, the president was able to once again produced personal protective equipment so that we were not reliant on China.”

Trump appears to have been in a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation as he was criticized for suggesting the possibility of a lab leak theory, and now hindsight dictates that he should apparently NOT have listened to “experts” like Fauci.

Citing Trump’s speech Saturday night at the North Carolina GOP convention, Wallace opened the segment by asking Lewandowski does his former boss “really believe that the Democratic Party is violent and many of them hate our country?”

After reminding the Fox News host that some Democrats helped bail out protesters who were “arrested for causing mayhem and violence, attacking police stations, [and] burning our courthouses,” Lewandowski said Democratic policies are not consistent with Trump’s America-first agenda.

“I think the policies of the Biden administration clearly show that Joe Biden does not care as much about this country as he does others,” he said.
