A young, spry whippersnapper of a Walmart contractor knocked a misbehaving customer out cold with only one shot to the dome during a brawl Tuesday.

A 14-second video clip of the incident reportedly recorded at a Walmart in Englewood, Colorado, initially showed the security staffer and customer in a shoving match.

While it’s not clear what triggered the match, during it, the customer lost his cool and seemingly spit in the contractor’s face. The enraged staff member exploded in rage, but another Walmart employee restrained him.

As the customer then walked away with his cart, the contractor broke free from the employee, rushed up to the customer and then knocked him out cold as a woman could be heard in the background pleading with him to “not do this.”

Less than 24 hours after Royster published the video, the extremely popular urban video-aggregating site World Site Hip Hop re-published the clip, causing it to go uber-viral across the entire internet and even capture the attention of the media.

Soon after, a Walmart spokesperson confirmed to the New York Post that the incident had occurred in Englewood, that the hitter had been a contracted security worker and that this contractor is now banned from all Walmart stores worldwide.

As for the misbehaving customer, the spokesperson said only that they could not confirm that he’d actually spit at the contractor.

The company’s response to the incident provoked backlash because it seemed clear to many that the customer had indeed spit at the contractor:

“If he is fired, @Walmart will / should face an international boycott. Being at work should not take away our right to defend ourselves against such horrific, despicable attacks. Being spit on and physically attacked has no place in our society,” one critic tweeted.

Another added that the employee may even have a successful lawsuit on his hands.

See this and other criticisms below (*Language warning):

However, some pushed back by arguing that the contractor should have de-escalated the situation instead of taking it so far. Some even suggested that the customer is the one with a potential lawsuit on his hands.

Look:

The contractor isn’t the only one who’s “lost it” in the midst of a feud with a customer.

Former Tulsa Walmart employee Laja Jefferson lost it in 2017 when a customer refused to show one of her colleagues her receipt. It’s commonplace for a Walmart worker to be stationed near the exit to check customers’ receipts as they leave the store.

But in this case, the customer said “No!” so Jefferson tried to intervene to help. Except that she got so worked up by the customer’s attitude that she exploded in a fit of profane verbal rage.

Watch (*Language warning):

The anger was palpable, though Jefferson later apologized for her behavior.

“I blew up, that’s not me. That’s out of character for me. No matter what she said to me, I feel like I should apologize to her being the person that I am,” she told local station KTUL at the time.

It’s not clear if the one-hit champ from Englewood will also one day apologize. It’s also not clear whether he even should, because spit is nothing to play with.
