Miami Vice 2.0: Concert shooting leaves 2 dead, 20+ wounded; 3rd mass shooting in as many days

Three gunmen remain at large in the Miami area after allegedly opening fire at a concert early Sunday morning, killing at least two and wounding 22 others in the third shooting in the area over the past three days.

At least one injured person was in critical condition, according to a police report.

As the concert was wrapping up, a white Nissan Pathfinder reportedly pulled up and three people armed with rifles and handguns began shooting “indiscriminately” into the crowd. Some of the concertgoers were already outside when the SUV pulled up.

The shooting occurred in the Country Club Shopping Center in Hialeah in Northwest Miami-Dade at El Mula Banquet Hall after midnight early Sunday morning according to a report by the Miami Herald.

The concert featured several rappers including ABMG Spitta, according to several event flyers apparently found on Instagram.

“We believe this is a targeted act of gun violence,” said Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez. “This is a despicable act of gun violence, a cowardly act.”

At least eight victims were transported to Miami-Dade and Broward hospitals by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. More than 12 others took themselves to local hospitals, according to a police report.

Early Sunday morning around 6 AM, a group of friends and relatives of the victims were reportedly awaiting updates outside of the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Some held hands in prayer.

“This type of gun violence has to stop,” Ramirez said. “Every weekend it is the same thing. This is targeted, this is definitely not random.”

“It is very difficult to stop a small amount of individuals who want to go out there and commit murder, and it takes all of us to stop this,” Ramirez said. “We really have to put the work in this summer to keep our children and community safe.”

The police continue to search for the suspects. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or call (866) 471-8477.

Two other shootings have been reported in the area since Thursday. A video captured gunshots and screams in what appeared to be a dramatic car chase and shooting that left at least three wounded near the Casino Miami Jai-Alai.

That incident took place on Thursday. On Friday, another drive-by shooting left one  dead and six injured outside of a rented party space in the Wynwood area. According to reports, the assailant(s) fired indiscriminately into a crowd of people, with a one person saying the scene looks like a “war zone.”
