Our major cities have become powder kegs for lawlessness, hatred, and violence in the last year. Certainly, recent events have only increased tensions and stoked more criminal behavior. We continue to see so-called leaders across the country incite violence in the name of social justice. They bow to and echo the demands of the woke mob.
Criminals are emboldened. The rule of law has been poisoned and paralyzed by virtue signaling, screams of systemic racism, and critical race theory. In the city of DC to date in 2021, police say there have been 101 carjackings, compared to just 22 at the same time last year — right before the pandemic took off and that number skyrocketed. Our cities are now extremely dangerous.
The reality of where we truly are as a society became very real to me riding the metro in Washington, DC. I became the victim of a hate crime only because I was defending an elderly, Hispanic woman from threats of sexual assault and death.
I was going to have dinner with a friend as I always do on Thursdays after recording my weekly radio show, The Patriot and The Preacher Show. Ironically, only hours prior to that moment, I had just finished interviewing Alveda King discussing that state of our nation, including the failed leadership of our elected officials.
I had only been on the metro a few short minutes when a black male sat across the aisle from me and asked me for money. I was reading an email and initially ignored him hoping he would go away. After he asked again, I simply told him that I didn’t have any cash.
Clearly agitated, he abruptly got up and yelled, “It’s because I’m black” and walked away.
He immediately directed his attention at the only other person in the train car, an elderly, defenseless woman. He asked her for money and when she politely said no, he demanded that she give him money. I immediately stood up and started walking towards her and as any coward would, he temporarily turned and walked away.
I sat down next to her as she was clutching her purse. She was clearly terrified. She immediately grabbed my hand and I told her that everything was going to be alright.
That didn’t stop the man’s drug-induced rage. He laid down in the seats across from us, lit a cigarette with one hand, and grabbed his crotch (no mask on) with the other.
He demanded that she perform oral sexual acts on him. His exact words were, “Suck my balls bitch!” He said it repeatedly while he humiliated and disrespected her.
I will never forget watching this innocent woman’s eyes well up with tears as he berated her. Amid the chaos and fear, this sweet woman held two fingers up and said, “Two stops!”
I looked at her and said, “You and I are getting off this train together. I promise you are going to be alright.“
Just as I finished reassuring her, the thug escalated his attacks and threatened to kill her! I stood between them and told him not to come any closer. That enraged him and he then directed all his attention back at me.
He yelled, “I’ll f*****g kill you whitey!” He repeated it over and over again. I believed he would because I could see the evil in his eyes.
When our stop came to the rescue, the woman clutched my hand as I escorted her off the train. The degenerate tried preventing the train from leaving by holding the doors open while he continued to threaten to “kill you whitey.”
As we came up the escalator in the metro station, we spied our saving grace: two DC Metro Police officers at the top of the platform. They acted immediately and with the description we gave them, they apprehended the man 3 stops later as he was lighting up yet another cigarette on the metro. He has been charged with two counts of making death threats and a hate crime. I hope justice will be served.
I shudder to think what would have happened to my new friend Celestina if I had not been there. The man on the train did not care that she was a wife, mother, and grandmother. He did not care that they were waiting for her to come home safe. He had no regard for the terror he put her through because he is a common criminal thug.
Yes, we were victims of serious crimes. In truth, we are also victims of the dangerous actions and rhetoric from elected leaders who condone and encourage lawless behavior. Those who defund police or blame society for the actions of criminals are just as guilty as the criminals themselves.
It’s more than a troubling sign that basic human decency and respect are in short supply in our country. As a nation, we will not survive if we continue in this direction.
