Tucker Carlson names and shames Republicans who would vote for Dems’ Jan. 6 commission ‘farce’

House Democrats were successful Tuesday in pushing through the Rules Committee a proposal to create a 9/11-style commission to “investigate” the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, setting up a planned vote in the full House for Wednesday.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson was highly critical of any Republican support for the panel, which he called a “complete farce,” and said GOP voters should know who eventually supports the proposal.

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., came out in opposition to the proposal on Tuesday, calling it “duplicative and potentially counterproductive,” saying that given the “shortsighted scope that does not examine interrelated forms of political violence in America, I cannot support this legislation.”

In the Senate, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., vowed to bring the matter up for a vote, while Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he would be “pushing the pause button” on the idea.

Carlson noted McCarthy’s opposition, as well as that of Minority Whip Steve Scalise., R-La., before ripping the proposal: “It’s a complete farce. It’s partisan as hell. It’s fake. Don’t play along with the fraud.”

He then played a clip of one of the protesters inside the Capitol appealing to others to remain peaceful, saying into a bullhorn that “the police are willing to work with us and cooperate peacefully.”

The Fox News host said the federal government “is hiding apparently thousands of hours of video from inside the Capitol from that day,” footage that runs counter to the accepted narrative that the protest was an alleged “insurrection.”

Carlson mentioned the unarmed Air Force veteran, Ashli Babbitt, who was shot and killed without warning by a Capitol Police officer, before noting that a number of the protesters have not only been charged with crimes — like trespassing and disorderly conduct — but many have been kept in solitary confinement in the D.C. jail instead of being released before trial.

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi… said this commission is about ‘finding the truth,’ but she is the same person who supports [Black Lives Matter] and the Antifa riots over the summer,” Carlson said.

“In a civilized country you have equal justice, you punish people equally for the same crime,” he continued. “That’s the opposite of what we are seeing now. When the last administration sent federal agents to stop Antifa, Nancy Pelosi said it was a violation of their ‘dignity and First Amendment rights.'” Chuck Schumer called it ‘despicable.'”

Carlson said Pelosi is “refusing to include BLM and Antifa riots from the scope of the 9-11 style commission … because they are her voters,” noting that Democrats protect their voters at all costs, “unlike Republicans.”

Stressing that Republicans should never defend violence or rioting, he said they should “defend the right of people not to be held in a solitary confinement for four months for trespassing.” Again, Carlson mentioned Babbitt’s death, which has been brushed aside by the media, to say the officer who killed her “should explain why he pulled that trigger,” but that no one is asking those questions.

It was at this point that Carlson set his sights on GOP lawmakers who may support the commission, insisting that these members need to be made known because they’ll be voting to give Democrats “more power.”

“People like Congressman John Katko of New York, he’s the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee,” he said, “is apparently pushing for this 9/11-style commission. One anonymous House Republican told ‘The Hill’ that anywhere from between 30 and 50 Republicans might join Katko in voting for this farce.”

“What are they voting for? They are voting to give Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden more power,” he concluded. “Power they do not deserve, power they did not win in November. Republican voters deserve to know the names of every congressional Republican who votes for this farce, for the myth-making that is being used right now to strip you of your constitutional rights. They should know which of the representatives is playing along with this poisonous hoax. We hope they will learn soon.”
