Not sweating allegations, Gaetz jokes: ‘I’m being falsely accused of exchanging money for naughty favors’

Self-described Florida Man Matt Gaetz seems undaunted by the fact that he is reportedly under a cloud for alleged sexual misconduct.

At an Ohio rally, U.S. Rep. Gaetz, the high-profile GOP nemesis of Never Trumpers everywhere, irreverently compared his situation to the way Congress spreads around cash in targeted spending for pet projects singled out by individual politicians.

“I’m being falsely accused of exchanging money for naughty favors. Yet, Congress has reinstituted a process that legalizes the corrupt act of exchanging money for favors, through earmarks, and everybody knows that that’s the corruption,”  Gaetz quipped on Saturday, according to NBC News.

The feds are reportedly investigating whether Gaetz had a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old female that violated sex-trafficking laws.

Gaetz has previously vowed that he is not going anywhere and has consistently denied the tawdry allegations against him.

One of Gaetz’s associates, Joel Greenberg, has agreed to plead guilty to six federal charges, however, and he is purportedly cooperating in a probe into sex trafficking, according to the NBC report.

At this time, there are no charges against Gaetz. It remains to be seen if this is a legitimate investigation that will reveal criminal wrongdoing on the part of the lawmaker, who represents a Pensacola-area district, or perhaps a ploy by the Deep State against Gaetz because of his pro-Trump bona fides.

“Documents filed in connection the Greenberg’s plea agreement do not mention Gaetz,” NBC added. Greenberg is due in court on Monday.

Gaetz made the above remarks at the Ohio Political Summit in Strongsville, located in the state’s 16th congressional district represented by pro-impeachment, second-term Republican Anthony Gonzalez, an ex-professional football player. Gonzalez was not in attendance.

“Is it likely that the Anthony Gonzalez congressional career might mirror the Anthony Gonzalez NFL career? Whole lot of hype, first round draft pick, out in four years,” Gaetz said at the Cleveland-area rally, where conservative activist Candace Owens was also one of the featured speakers.

Earlier this month, the Ohio Republican Party called upon Gonzalez to resign for his vote to impeach Trump for allegedly inciting the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

In what may or may not be a response to his legislative colleague, Rep. Gonzalez tweeted out a message in which he wrote, in part, that “Ending child exploitation remains one of my top policy initiatives in Congress.”

As a component of his loaded speaking schedule around the country, Matt Gaetz and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R- Ga.) have teamed up for an “America First” tour, which gives them a platform to call out establishment Republicans and radical leftists in the run-up to the 2022 midterm elections in which the GOP has a chance to retake control of both chambers in Congress.
