‘Deep peril’: Letter from 124 retired top military brass questions Biden’s health, 2020 election result

Left-wing circles are in an uproar over a critical letter published this week by a large group of retired military generals and admirals who’re concerned about the “deep peril” that President Joe Biden’s administration poses to the nation and its future.

Calling themselves “Flag Officers 4 America,” the group of 124 retired generals and admirals make many factually accurate but apparently controversial assertions in their letter, including that the Democrat Party has been taken over by “socialists and Marxists,” that the party has embraced illiberalism and that the party is attempting to eliminate election integrity laws using false claims of racism.

The part of the letter that’s drawn the most ire is its assertions about the 2020 presidential election. While the letter doesn’t directly question the outcome of the election, it does make the case that former President Donald Trump’s claims of voting irregularities/fraud deserved more consideration.

“[T]he ‘Rule of Law’ must be enforced in our election processes to ensure integrity. The FBI and Supreme Court must act swiftly when election irregularities are surfaced and not ignore them as was done in 2020,” the letter reads.

It adds that for truly “fair and honest elections” to exist in America, election integrity must be respected. The problem, the letter continues, is that Democrats are trying desperately to undermine election integrity.

“Legal votes are identified by State Legislature’s approved controls using government IDs, verified signatures, etc. Today, many are calling such commonsense controls ‘racist’ in an attempt to avoid having fair and honest elections. Using racial terms to suppress proof of eligibility is itself a tyrannical intimidation tactic,” the letter reads.

Polls have repeatedly shown that a majority of Americans of all races support voter ID laws, though Democrats continue to use the “racism” canard anyway.

The generals also take a shot at H.R. 1, alleging that if passed, it “would destroy election fairness and allow Democrats to forever remain in power violating our Constitution and ending our Representative Republic.”

They aren’t wrong. As previously reported, H.R. 1 is a radical bill that would federalize America’s election system, thus stripping states of the election-management powers granted to them by the Constitution.

Despite the generals’ assertions being in line with the facts, it’s triggered a barrage of “woke” outrage from journalists, media pundits and former Obama administration officials like retired Gen. Michael Mullen, who in a statement to Politico accused the letter of being chockablock with “right-wing Republican talking points.”

It’s not clear whether he realized that this arbitrary dismissal of the letter sounded like a left-wing Democrat talking point.

Note how the latter Twitter user wants to create a list of “signatories for accountability.” Is this not an example of the illiberalism the generals are trying to warn about?

The letter continues by slamming Biden for reversing his predecessor’s “effective policies and regulations” via executive fiat, slamming districts that imposed “excessive’ lockdowns” on their citizens, and slamming politicians who seek to silence their ideological opponents through “censorship of written and verbal expression.”

In a list containing eight bullet points, the generals then draw attention to the issues that concern them most: open borders, China, censorship, the Iranian nuclear deal, the Keystone Pipeline’s elimination, the fortifying of the U.S. Capitol, the nationwide tolerance of left-wing terrorism/”anarchy” and the president’s mental/physical state.

Of the president’s health, the generals write, “The mental and physical condition of the Commander in Chief cannot be ignored. He must be able to quickly make accurate national security decisions involving life and limb anywhere, day or night.”

They continue, “Recent Democrat leadership’s inquiries about nuclear code procedures sends a dangerous national security signal to nuclear armed adversaries, raising the question about who is in charge. We must always have an unquestionable chain of command.”

The letter concludes with the generals warning that America is turning toward tyranny because of the illiberal policies of the modern Democrat Party.

“Under a Democrat Congress and the Current Administration, our Country has taken a hard left turn toward Socialism and a Marxist form of tyrannical government which must be countered now by electing congressional and presidential candidates who will always act to defend our Constitutional Republic. The survival of our Nation and its cherished freedoms, liberty, and historic values are at stake,” they write.

While he would disagree with many of the generals’ assertions, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald, a classical liberal, would likely agree with their concerns about the Democrat Party embracing authoritarianism and tyranny.

In a statement to Politico, the letter’s organizer, retired Army Maj. Gen. Joe Arbuckle, staunchly defended the group’s decision to involve themselves in politics.

“Retired generals and admirals normally do not engage in political actions, but the situation facing our nation today is dire and we must speak out in order to be faithful to our oath to support and defend the Constitution of the U.S. against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” he said.

“We are facing threats greater than at any other time since our country was founded. Aside from China, many of these threats flow directly from policy positions and actions of our own government. It is critical that the threats to our national security be brought to the attention of the American people and that is the main purpose of the letter. To remain silent would be a dereliction of duty.”
