Lamenting the apparent imminent ouster of Never Trump U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney from the GOP leadership, an MSNBC guest has, without evidence, compared the Republican Party to a malevolent terrorist organization.
Former Lincoln Project adviser Kurt Bardella expressed some deep thoughts during an appearance on “The ReidOut,” the show hosted by Joy Reid, the liberal channel’s resident alarmist, if not conspiracy theorist.
“I’ve been thinking to myself this whole time, you know, Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, the Taliban, the people who wanted to do harm to our nation and to our way of life and our democracy, they got nothing on what this Republican Party is doing,” Bardella asserted.
“The idea that a member of their party, of their leadership, whose last name is Cheney, could be purged from their leadership for telling the truth about January 6, for telling the truth about a violent insurrection that claimed the lives of…a Capitol police officer,” he continued.
“The fact that people like Cheney won’t support the great lie that this election was rigged or there was voter fraud, the anti-democratic forces are hijacking this party, purging one of the members who won’t abide by the party line, that is so detrimental and dangerous,” he added.
Perhaps Bardella seems to be suggesting that the U.S. is a monarchy of a kind and thus someone’s last name carries relevance with it. The liberal media also has a history of temporarily faux embracing and then discarding establishment Republicans who buy into various left-wing narratives.
And while the death of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was a tragedy, a medical examiner’s report concluded that he passed away from natural causes after suffering two strokes.
Bardella did not mention, however, unarmed protester Ashli Babbitt, the U.S. Air Force vet who was shot and killed by an as-yet unidentified Capitol Police officer during the January 6 chaos at the Capitol. The Department of Justice has declined to press charges against the officer, but the Babbitt family is suing in civil court.
Bardella, who worked for Breitbart News back in the day, continued on this hyperbolic path:
“We are a two-party system in this country; that’s how it was built for better or worse. When one of those two parties becomes this radicalized and when the core of the party’s ideology is anti-democratic, that is a very dangerous development going on that’s gonna result in more violence, that’s gonna result in more attempts to overthrow our government, that’s gonna result in people losing lives just like January 6,” Bardella asserted.

In an environment replete with double standards, it’s often been said that Democrats accuse Republicans of things that the Democrats are actually doing. And if it’s any party that typically demands rigid ideological conformity as it currently attempts to jam through a far-left radical agenda under Biden, it’s the Democrat Party.
In the meantime, the GOP, in general, appears to be resolving its philosophical differences mostly in the primary process.
Moreover, Trump-style, ‘America First’ peaceful populism has essentially become the defining principle of the rank-and-file contemporary Republican Party. Whether the party’s leadership class gets that message is another matter entirely. That said, Never Trump seems to have little or no constituency outside of a few cable news studios.
Accordingly, perceptive Twitter users scoffed at Bardella’s claims. Here is a sampling:
Color me shocked that a guy on the side that talks about how Trump denigrated our American body politic and made our lives more caustic and contentious goes out and, without pushback, says the GOP has done more to damage our democracy than anything al-Qaeda and the Taliban did.

…I am sure all the people that have been tortured and raped by al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, and the Taliban combined are sickened by this comparison. I am sure the families of those killed are thrilled by his rhetoric.

Does this top Stelter’s guest who said Trump was responsible for more deaths than Hitler, Stalin, etc? come to think of it, Brian also said nothing to push back on THAT guest. Sort of a pattern.

I agree. These people saying these things are the radicals. Its not the Gop out looting rioting killing injuring burning and destroying. Its the democratic base that wants communism and socialism and segregation. Truth speaks and evidence speaks.

If I could go back 5 years and bet money that the Dem’s would set up shop supporting someone with the last name of Cheney? What would I have won?
