NBC ‘fixes’ the news that Texas voters rejected critical race theory by a landslide

NBC News is being met with enormous skepticism on social media for its narrative-pushing way of summarizing the results of a high-profile, “bitterly divided” Texas school board election won by opponents of “anti-racism education” and that was supposedly fought out over a benign-sounding “diversity” plan.

The controversial critical race theory construct was essentially on the ballot in the Dallas suburb of Southlake, and it lost in a landslide.

Opponents of CRT, which is gaining currency in academia and in corporate America, actually prevailed by a massive and presumably not particularly divisive 70 percent of the vote, which even the corporate news outlet had to admit was a turnout far higher than usual for a local election.

According to its critics, CRT is a form of left-wing indoctrination that smears and shames one group and creates resentment in another all in the name of eliminating systemic racism in a country that has traditionally rejected guilt by association or collective guilt.

In the vote on Saturday, conservative candidates backed by the Southlake Families PAC overwhelmingly won two school board seats, two city council seats, and elected a new mayor.

The controversy reportedly had its origins in a Carroll Independent School District proposal last year for a “cultural competence action plan” that some concerned parents insisted contained the hallmarks of a “left-wing agenda,” and could lead to the emergence of the “diversity police,” if not “reverse racism,” the Dallas Morning News reported.

Progressives who champion diversity obviously felt otherwise and maintained that these new measures were necessary to improve the school environment.

Late last year, a local judge put the plan — which apparently arose after some students in 2018 and 2019 were caught on video chanting racial slurs — on hold pursuant to a temporary restraining order.

After the votes were counted, successful school board candidate Hannah Smith, a lawyer who clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito said that “The voters have come together in record-breaking numbers to restore unity. By a landslide vote, they don’t want racially divisive critical race theory taught to their children or forced on their teachers. Voters agreed with my positive vision of our community and its future.”

As alluded to above, right-leaning Twitters users concluded that the way NBC crafted or spun the headline about what happened in Southlake was problematic, to use one of the liberals’ favorite words. Here is just a sampling:
