‘This sh*t is crazy’: Mounted T-shirt air gun confiscated when rapper drives in NYC

A Philadelphia-based rapper and fashion mogul has had an air rifle mounted atop his Hummer that shoots out promotional t-shirts confiscated by the NYPD.

Christopher Stoney was driving his vehicle along 9th Avenue near West 34th Street in Manhattan on Saturday when NYPD officers took note of the large, four-foot-long air rifle mounted on the Hummer’s roof.

The officers also noted the OD-green vehicle’s designs which included three yellow bullets and the words “Warchyld” and “Wardrobe.”

NYPD officers pulled the vehicle over and Stoney, 41, who had two passengers with him, told officers that Wardrobe is the name of his clothing line, the New York Post reported.

Stoney, who hails from neighboring New Jersey, proceeded to tell officers that the vehicle is owned by his company and that the massive air gun on the top is used to launch promotional t-shirts at events

However, NYPD officers were not mollified by his explanation and took him and his two passengers into custody, where he was summarily issued a ticket at the Midtown South Precinct for unlawfully possessing an air rifle.

Officers removed the giant gun from the vehicle and impounded it as evidence, leaving a disgruntled rapper to document the incident on his Instagram page.

“I’m sorry to say but the NYPD is about to confiscate my cannon off my truck. This s–t is crazy right now, man. They’re taking it,” Stoney says in a video clip he posted.

They told me to put my hands up,” Stoney said in an interview with the Daily News. “They thought I was a terrorist.”

“My hands were shaking and I was nervous. It felt like a scene from a Bruce Willis movie.”

He went on to say, however, that the encounter with the NYPD was not traumatizing and that he was appreciative that officers took care in removing the air gun.

“It was a humbling moment, where me and the law enforcement saw eye to eye,” he told the Daily News before quipping, “I’m never going to the city ever again.”

But he’ll have to: He’s due to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court in July.

Officers, he said, told him he would be able to pick up his air cannon later, most likely after his case is adjudicated.

While seemingly innocuous enough, the incident with the air gun comes as the NYPD deals with record increases in gun crimes and gun homicides, which have risen most dramatically over the past year as rioting and demonstrations followed the George Floyd incident in May.

Fox News reported over the weekend that now, on average, there are three shootings per day in the country’s most populous city as cops work to take illegal guns off the streets.

Last week following the shooting of a 12-year-old boy, Mayor Bill De Blasio blamed the spike in gun violence on the city’s courts, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the flailing economy in the city, the latter due in large part to continued coronavirus-related restrictions on business capacity and reopenings imposed by the Democratic mayor and the state’s Democratic governor, Andrew Cuomo.

“When I hear the mayor say that, I immediately throw the BS flag down and say there’s no way that this has anything to do with COVID, the economy. None of the above. This has everything to do with the bad guys knowing the good guys aren’t really doing their job because they’re afraid to do their job,” security expert Manny Gomez, a former FBI and NYPD sergeant, told CBS New York.
