CNN correspondent Sara Sidner was live in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota Monday night covering the riots after the officer-involved shooting of Daunte Wright, when she was confronted by a man who told the media to get out.

A terse exchange occurred when the masked man walked up to Sidner and engaged her over the media being present at the volatile protests: “Now you can see — y’all be twistin’ up the story. That y’all doin’,” the man told Sidner. What some panned as an incredible moment between the two was more awkward than anything else.

Sidner lamely tried to speak with the man, attempting to relate to him at some level. It didn’t work. She asked for his name and what he thought of the protests and the death of Wright. The answer she got was an expletive-ridden rant against the media.

“What I think about this is, all the press and all the extra s— y’all do makes this worse!” the man profanely said.

“You think so?” Sidner cluelessly asked.

“Yeah,” the man remarked. “Y’all need to get up outta here with all that twistin’ up the media and s—, real s—.”

“I want you to be careful. I really do,” Sidner condescendingly advised.

“Of what?” the man asked.

“Do I look like I’m scared?” he asked her and said, “you all need to get up out of here with all that twisting up the media and s—.”

“You don’t know me, but we’re going to get to know each other,” Sidner stated trying to calm him down. “That’s what we’re going to do.” But the man wasn’t interested in getting to know the reporter.

“How are you gonna know me?” the man angrily asked her.

“You’re going to talk,” Sidner smugly told the man. “I’m going to share our number with you. Let’s do it.”

“No, let’s do it right here,” the man informed her.

She tried to give him her phone number but the man was having none of it. He wasn’t going to make an appointment for an interview that he felt would be twisted and edited out of context.

“Y’all just gonna edit out the s— that y’all don’t want,” the man claimed. “And then you’re gonna edit out some other s—.”

“We’re live!” Sidner proclaimed noting that they were speaking on “Cuomo Prime Time.”

“I don’t care if you’re live or not, get away from here with all that media s— that y’all doing,” the man ordered.

“This is live right now. We’re with CNN…” Sidner informed him.

“Then take that camera all the way the f— up there then,” he told her, pointing to the protests. “Y’all doing the extra s— for the backhand s— to make people crazier than what the f— they are.”

In a tone-deaf reaction, Sidner invited the man to “watch” as they covered the protests. He made his final statement on what he thought of the media by just walking away.

Sidner tweeted on the altercation an hour later: “I’m not going anywhere,” she stated. “I love Minneapolis, it’s surrounding suburbs including #BrooklynCenter, and it’s people. I get that people are mad. It’s normal. I take no offense. Emotions are understandably high after the killing of #DanteWright.”
