MTG cashes in on controversy, pulling in $3.2M while resisting calls to expel her from Congress

U.S. Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) appears to be cashing in on controversy. The first-year lawmaker reportedly hauled in a massive $3.2 million in campaign donations from January through March 2021 primarily from small, grassroots contributors.

What’s even more notable is that social media star Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-N.Y.) reportedly only managed about $726,000 during the same time period in 2019 when she was new in Washington.

Given that they face reelection every two years, members of Congress are constantly “dialing for dollars,” and the digital equivalent, for their own campaigns or (if they are in a safe, gerrymandered district) to spread the wealth to other office-holders or seekers in their political party.

“That means Greene raised four times the amount of the most high-profile Democratic freshman in their comparable first quarter in office,” Fox News noted about the AOC comparison.

As well documented, Greene was famously stripped of her committee assignments, putting her metaphorically on her own island, for espousing conspiracy theories, which makes her donation total perhaps even more impressive in that she no longer has a platform in those venues.

Democrat even floated the idea of expelling her from Congress altogether, for supposedly supporting “sedition,” but that — at least for now — has died down.

For a time, the corporate media seemed to try to turn her into Trump 2.0 in the context of an avatar for negative coverage, but that, too, has died down, at least for now.

Greene represents the solid Republican 14th congressional district in northwest Georgia, so she appears to be in a strong position for reelection, although she could face a well-financed primary challenger from the GOP establishment. She definitely now has an edge in cash on hand, though.

In announcing the windfall, the pro-Trump, pro-life, pro-gun Greene told her nearly 400,000 followers on Twitter that she just getting started in being a thorn in the side of the political ruling class.

“I am humbled, overjoyed, and so excited to announce what happened over the past few months as I have been the most attacked freshman member of Congress in history. Over 100,000 donors poured in over $3,200,000 to support me, averaging $30 per donation.”

“In the words of my favorite President Trump, ‘the best is yet to come,'” she concluded in the series of tweets.

As part of her unconventional approach, Greene has symbolically introduced articles of impeachment against Joe Biden as well as sponsoring legislation that she called the Fire Fauci Act that would require U.S. Senate confirmation for his successor as director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (and cut Dr. Fauci’s pay to zero in the meantime) and another bill to ban so-called vaccine passports.

Like her or not, Greene is one of an unprecedented number of mostly pro-Trump, high-energy female Republicans who were elected to Congress in Election 2020. President Trump has described her as a “very special person” during a recent meetup at Mar-a-Lago.

Rep. Greene’s Twitter was suspended “by mistake” by Twitter for the second time after she posted a tweet to celebrate Easter.

In response, Greene wondered if the 12-hour hiatus was the result of her publicly expressing her Christian faith.

Separately, in a Newsmax appearance, Greene called out woke corporate America and Democrats for hypocrisy about Georgia’s new voting law.
