Assigned by President Joe Biden last month to handle the border crisis that the administration claims isn’t actually a crisis, Vice President Kamala Harris has thus far done nothing substantive to address it, not even hold a press conference.

“She has now gone 14 days without holding a news conference specifically about her new border duties,” Fox News reported Tuesday.

Not even when she reportedly visited her pre-White House home in the Los Angeles area this past weekend for a brief Easter vacation did she address the border crisis, despite being within a few short miles of the southern U.S. border.

Nor did the mainstream press, sans Fox News, notice the discrepancy. Instead they sycophantically celebrated her for cooking a pork roast:

This irritated Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel. Writing for Fox News on Tuesday, she excoriated the vice president for vacationing — and in a border state to boot — while the crisis along the border rages.

Taking a California vacation on the taxpayer’s dime when there’s a humanitarian crisis raging mere miles to the south is cynical, weak and fundamentally uncaring,” McDaniel wrote.

Harris’ failure to do even the bare minimum – just showing up – is an insult to the people working overtime at the border to care for the thousands of unaccompanied children that are here due to her administration’s policies. They are working under immense stress to provide some level of safety and comfort even as the system is stretched to the breaking point,” she added.

Indeed. As noted by former senior Trump administration official Stephen Miller in tweets posted Monday, the United States is currently “in the midst of the worst border crisis in U.S. history.”

These aren’t just “right-wing” talking points. Speaking on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” this Monday, Deputy Border Patrol chief Raul Ortiz confirmed that “way over 100,000” illegal aliens have managed to sneak into the U.S.

“We have technology and we have some resources out there that give us an estimate of how many people are actually getting away from us. … I can tell you that, so far, it’s been way over 100,000 people,” he said.

Ortiz added, “But the Border Patrol agents, as well as our law enforcement partners, are doing everything we can. Our resources are just stretched awfully thin right now.”

The media have been attempting to deflect blame away from Harris and the administration at large by arguing that she’s been busy handling what they claim is the real problem.

“Aides define her official task as leading the diplomatic outreach to Central American countries to address the root causes of migration. … One official noted the narrative around immigration will take time to recalibrate after four years of the prior administration using broad strokes to demonize any part of immigration instead of talking credibly about the root causes of migration,” CNN reported last week.

But it didn’t take “talking credibly about the root causes of migration” for the Trump administration to drastically reduce border crossings.

Rather, it took then-President Donald Trump investing more resources into border security and, more importantly, using a carrot-and-stick strategy to compel America’s southern neighbors to get with the program.

“Under pressure from President Trump’s tariffs threat, Mexico reached a deal with the United States on June 7 to step up immigration enforcement and to take in more migrants waiting for their U.S. asylum hearings,” NPR reported in the summer of 2019.

The strategy worked.

“We achieved what critics said was impossible. Illegal family #’s plummeted. Those who came were all promptly removed,” according to Miller.

All Biden had to do was continue these policies, but instead he reversed everything and then assigned Harris to essentially do nothing about it.

Writing for The Hill on Monday, immigration law expert Nolan Rappaport speculated that the real reason for Harris’s inaction is that she doesn’t want to solve the crisis.

“Harris doesn’t want to enforce our country’s immigration laws, so I wouldn’t expect her to have much concern about securing the border to keep undocumented aliens out of the country,” he wrote, citing her past statements on illegal immigration.

It’s certainly possible …
