Fox’s Kurtz takes on a Chris Wallace-like hostile liberal tone, argues and corrects guest Hogan Gidley

Fox News host Howard Kurtz is making little effort these days to hide his bias against former President Donald Trump, giving network colleague Chris Wallace a run for his money.

Kurtz featured Hogan Gidley, former deputy press secretary and top spokesman for the Trump campaign, on Sunday’s edition of MediaBuzz, and took exception with the former president’s “tone” in wishing the nation a Happy Easter.

Trump said in a released statement: “Happy Easter to ALL, including the Radical Left CRAZIES who rigged our Presidential Election, and want to destroy our Country!”

“A lot of criticism there of the tone that he almost sounds a bit angry about what happened,” Kurtz observed.

“What are you talking about?” Gidley said. “He’s wishing happy Easter to everybody, even the ones who attacked him and don’t like him and don’t want him to be in office.”

The incredulous Fox News host responded to repeat — twice — the phrase “wants to destroy our country,” as if that’s not a fair assessment of today’s Democratic Party.

“The president was very clear,” Gidley protested. “Happy Easter to you all too. We know you don’t like America, we know you think this country is the cause of the world’s problems and we’re racists and we’re sexists and we’re bigoted and we’re homophobic as a nation — even though millions of people want to come here and they’re literally dying to do that — we understand!”

“But the president is being very nice!” he concluded. “Happy Easter to you, too.”

“Hogan, happy Easter to you as well,” Kurtz said in return.

Kurtz opened with a focus on Trump “taking shots at his successor” over President Joe Biden’s $2 trillion infrastructure plan.

Noting there’s plenty of things to criticize in the plan, Kurtz added that Trump called the plan a “globalist betrayal,” a “cruel and heartless” attack on the American dream, and said our economy will be destroyed.

“Why such incendiary language,” he then asked. “Most former presidents give their successors a few months before pounding on them.”

Given the details of the infrastructure plane that has little to do with infrastructure, Kurtz’ remark is disingenuous, at best.

Gidley pretty much said as much, but in the process of doing so, Kurtz questioned him using the term “communism” — it’s past time we stop pretending that progressivism isn’t steeped in government control, collectivism and Marxist-inspired principles.

“Listen, you just fell for the oldest trick in the book, outlined by the Democrats, calling it an infrastructure bill,” the Trump aide said. “It isn’t, only 5 percent of the bill is dedicated to roads and bridges. That means 95 percent of the spending in here is a liberal, communist, socialist wish list dream.”

“Most of it has to do with Green New Deal projects and reparations,” he added. “If you want to put those two bills up and talk about them and debate them in the American public, let’s do that. Let’s have that conversation.”

“Let me jump in here,” Kurtz said. “There’s a lot of stuff in here just as there was with the COVID relief bill, but communist, is that really a charge you want to make?”

“Look, when you ask for a government takeover of our oil industry, you want Green New Deals to be pushed down on top of the American people, which would absolutely hurt the poorest among us — it would be problematic for our economy — when government takes over anything, you better believe that mirrors communism and what the communist countries of the past have tried to do to the people that they represent,” Gidley explained. “The same applies here.”

He also charged that while Trump led with an “America first” police, Biden is going with an “America last” approach that is supported by the media, who sell his policies as something productive.

“They don’t care that the infrastructure package doesn’t address roads and bridges,” Gidley insisted. “In fact, most of the roads and bridges are up to the states to fix and maintain and build. That’s why they have taxes at the local level to do that. This is a federalization of that project.”

He also slammed the media over Georgia’s election reform bill.

“These leftists in the mainstream media just lap up whatever Democrats say and post it and a week later they’re coming out with all these corrections. That’s a problem,” he said. “Now it’s already engrained into the American people’s mind — they did that on purpose. This bill is not racist.”
