Media asked vaccinated Cruz to wear a mask, but stay mum when Psaki sneezes into hand at briefing

A day after members of the establishment press made a fuss over Sen. Ted Cruz speaking before them unmasked, they said nothing as White House press secretary Jen Psaki, also unmasked and also speaking with them, sneezed into her hand.

The contrast would be unbelievable if there weren’t already a lengthy track record of the mainstream press treating Republicans, be they presidents or congresspeople, in a completely different way than they treat Democrats.

About 37 minutes into a White House press briefing Friday, Psaki suddenly burst into a sneeze — one that she directed into her right hand — as she was being asked a question.

In response, the reporter who’d been asking the question said “bless you” and then quickly proceeded to finishing his question as if nothing had happened.

Watch:

Not only did the reporter not ask Psaki to put on a mask — or wash her hands, for that matter — nor did the mainstream press run any negative pieces bemoaning her willingness to do what’s allegedly necessary, wear a mask, to protect others.

Yet when Cruz, who’s been vaccinated for the coronavirus, merely spoke unmasked to the press a day earlier — and without sneezing or coughing — he was hassled for it.

“Would you mind putting on a mask for us?” an unnamed reporter had asked during a briefing in the halls of Congress on Thursday.

“Yeah, when I’m talking to the TV camera, I’m not going to wear a mask. All of us have been immunized,” the Texas senator had replied.

“It’d make us feel better,” the reporter had then pressed.

“You’re welcome to step away if you’d like. The whole point of a vaccine … CDC guidance is what we’re following,” Cruz had then said.

Following this incident, the media went haywire.

Here’s a list of just some of the reports/columns that emerged:

  • CBS News “‘You’re welcome to step away’: Senator Ted Cruz refuses to put on mask after reporter asks during press conference”
  • The Hill: “Cruz refuses to wear mask when asked by reporter at press event”
  • MSNBC: “Cruz ignores CDC guidelines talking to press without a mask”
  • People: “Ted Cruz Defends Telling a Reporter He Won’t Wear Mask While Talking to the Press”
  • HuffPost: “Seth Meyers Skewers Sen. Ted Cruz: ‘Dick’ Without A Mask”
  • CNN: “Ted Cruz refuses request to wear a mask. Hear Dr. Gupta’s response”

Over on CNN, Dr. Sanjay Gupta delivered a full-scale lecture to the senator.

“So charming, right? No, actually, it’s not. The CDC guidance — I just pulled it up again because the guidance does change, admittedly. But it says, even if you’ve been fully vaccinated, you need to keep taking precautions in public places, wearing a mask, staying six feet apart, avoiding crowds,” he said.

“Also, you know, the big wildcard here, as we’ve talked about, are these variants. Even though he should be very well protected against illness — severe illness and hospitalization from the variants, he may not be as well protected against moderate illness, mild illness and the possibility that he could still transmit the virus to somebody else. So when he’s not wearing a mask, he’s potentially putting other people in that room at risk. It’s as simple as that,” Gupta declared.

Yet not once has Gupta ever said anything about Psaki never wearing a mask at the White House’s press briefings, not to mention her sneezing into her hand.

What’s the difference? The only recognizable one appears to be that Cruz is a Republican, whereas Psaki is a liberal Democrat. It’s the same story heard every day.

Last week the media covered for President Joe Biden when he stumbled and fell three times in a row while boarding Air Force One. Meanwhile, the entire media pounced when then-President Donald Trump merely walked down a ramp slower than usual last year.

And then last weekend, a CNN “reporter” with a history of complaining about conservatives gathering in tight-knit groups amid the coronavirus didn’t voice a single complaint about students gathering in a tightknit group on the campus of Emory University to see Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris

It’s the same story every day, every week, every month, every year. And no matter how many critics expose the media for their bias, they seem to never change.
