Ilhan Omar’s post on Boulder gunman ‘sounds like it comes from an alternate universe’

The suspected gunman who opened fire at a King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, Colo., killing 10 people including a police officer, has been identified as 21-year-old Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa.

Alissa is Muslim and his family emigrated to America in 2002 from Syria, and he has been charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder and one charge of attempted murder. Once named, much of the media cited Alissa’s brother to establish that he “may have been suffering from mental illness,” reporting that the motive behind the shooting was unclear.

As for narratives, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., a refugee from Somalia, responded to Alissa being named the shooter to essentially flip reality on its head and suggest that pushing narratives based on ethnicity is harmful.

Unless the gunman is white, of course. In fact, before it was known that the suspect was Arab, that was the narrative: yet another white man shooting up the community. A narrative that was pushed by the niece of Vice President Kamala Harris, who later noted that she deleted a tweet about her “assumption.”

“The shooter’s race or ethnicity seems front and center when they aren’t white,” Omar tweeted on Tuesday. “Otherwise, it’s just a mentally ill young man having a bad day. Narratives drive our responses to awful crimes committed against innocent people, pay attention to these responses and who is targeted.”

But then, this is from the woman who once mocked Americans for being fearful of the militant Islamic terrorist organization Al-Qaeda.

Omar would further take issue with people noting that Alissa was Muslim, as seen in the tweet below:

Adding to the rank hypocrisy is that just one week ago, Omar herself was transfixed on ethnicity when a white gunman shot and killed eight people in Atlanta, including six people of Asian descent.

The Democratic lawmaker had no issue then denouncing “white mass murderers.”

Suffice it to say, Omar was lit up for her duplicity by a number of blue check Twitter accounts on the right, and others.

Here’s a sampling of those responses from Twitter:
