On Friday, President Biden stumbled twice and then fell down going up the stairs of Air Force One. The White House issued an immediate statement on the incident and proceeded to blame it on the wind.
The president took approximately ten steps before his first stumble and then took two more before the second one occurred. He attempted to carry on and immediately fell causing the White House to release a statement meant to reassure Americans. “It’s very windy outside,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre stated. “He is doing 100 percent fine. He’s doing great.”
The statement from the White House contributed to making the optics for the embarrassing accident even worse. After recovering from his fall, Biden rubbed his knee, continued up the stairs, and then saluted before entering the aircraft. All of that led to memes on social media and mockery.
The spin on the fall from the Biden administration was unnecessary and seemed to indicate that the president could not withstand a strong gust of wind. Many brushed off the incident as just simply tripping as everyone has done at some point. But once the excuse of the wind was introduced, the occurrence went viral. Twitchy snarked: “But more importantly, they’re going with “he’s so old he falls over with a stiff breeze”?”

As the fall took on a life of its own, Donald Trump Jr. shared a tweet showing his father hitting a golf ball that then was made to look like it hit Biden in the head causing him to fall on the stairs. The tweet was a humorous spoof on the incident intended to mock Biden.
It wasn’t the wind folks. pic.twitter.com/jYc01dBZCe

The Hill felt it necessary for some reason to point out that the video used in the viral tweet was edited. This drew massive sarcasm on Twitter:
no way i thought it was real https://t.co/8Jz2u5fvuO

It was edited folks .. for a second I thought it was real. https://t.co/GMh1CR1X5r

The Hill actually wrote a piece on the “edited” video. They were quick to point out that Twitter said it did not violate their policies.
Donald Trump Jr. tweeted out the full video of Biden’s misstep on Friday and said: “I remember the press bashing Trump for touching the rail once. Biden falls repeatedly but I’m sure he’s the picture of health. No wonder all our enemies are pouncing simultaneously and mocking him publicly.”
Pay no attention to the fact that the President of the United States is so frail that he got knocked over repeatedly by a gust of wind.
Nothing at all to see here, folks! 🙄 https://t.co/u2OjEEqSnr

Others couldn’t resist chiming in as well. Chrissy Teigen quipped: “We should all hope to one day trip on the way up to our personal jet.”
“Chair Force One,” tweeted Kyle Kashuv, the Parkland massacre survivor who has become a gun rights advocate. He showed a photoshopped image of Biden sitting on an Easy Climber stairlift on his way up the stairs of Air Force One.
Leftists came to the defense of the president on social media:
“#BidenFall is trending so a reminder that under Biden deaths have fallen each week and we just hit 100M vaccination shots,” human rights lawyer Qasim Rashid proclaimed.
“The story ain’t about President Biden tripping as he entered Air Force One. It’s about how quickly he got back up,” stated DNC adviser Scott Dworkin.
Meanwhile, the memes on Twitter took on a life of their own:
