Retired World Cup alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn is reportedly being “lauded” on social media for posting a photo of herself without makeup to Instagram.

In a post published Tuesday, Vonn included both a photo of her with makeup and a photo of her without makeup.

“Same person, same day… all that changed was makeup. I love getting glammed up when I have photoshoots and events, but underneath Im still the same person with the same feelings and things Im going through,” she wrote as a caption.

“In the world of IG filters and makeup hacks, I always remind myself that true beauty is the character your bring to every room… everything else washes off! ♥️”

She also shared the message to Twitter.

Men responded by expressing their preference for her without makeup.

Liar liar, your jockstrap’s on fire!

A study conducted in 2014 by the dating site Zoosk found that women who wear make-up in their profile pictures attract three times as much attention from men, as reported at the time by The Sydney Morning Herald.

Women responded by echoing the message about “true beauty.”

A new study published in the journal Perception finds that men perceive women who wear makeup to be more prestigious, while women perceive other women who wear makeup to be more dominant—and also more promiscuous,” Psychology Today reported in 2016.

“These conclusions come from a team of researchers led by Viktoria R. Mileva of Scotland’s University of Stirling. Mileva et al. conducted two experiments in which they applied a standardized amount of cosmetics to female faces using computer software. They then asked a handful of male and female participants to rate these female faces for levels of attractiveness, prestige, and dominance.”

Well then …

Jokes aside, not everybody is the same, obviously, and some men and women do prefer no makeup, while others — a majority, apparently — prefer makeup.

None of this negates Vonn’s point that inner beauty reigns supreme, though of course, when it comes to certain crafts like modeling, outer beauty matters too.

Or at least it’s supposed to matter …

*cough*

Also, lack of makeup doesn’t mean a lack of face care.

Speaking with InStyle magazine back in 2017, Vonn made it clear that she’s fervent about keeping her face at its best.

“I use a basic, exfoliating cleanser and Cetaphil in the morning followed up with [a moisturizer with] SPF. In the evening, I use a night cream. I think that will help my wrinkles—I’m not sure if that actually works, but I’m trying really hard!” she said.

And speaking with Into The Glass magazine late last year, she added, “I wash my face after I work out and before bed.”

So it’s perfectly OK (and recommended) to take care of your skin. But whether or not to use makeup, that’s a different matter. It’s one of preference.

What’s unclear is which one her ex-fiance preferred. They reportedly got engaged in August of 2019 but then split up last December, according to the New York Post.

“Over the past 3 years PK and I have had some incredible times together. He is a kind, good man, and someone I respect a great deal. However, after much consideration we have decided to move forward separately. We will always remain friends and love each other immensely. We ask that you please respect our privacy during this time,” Vonn reportedly wrote on Instagram at the time.

Perhaps he’d failed to recognize her “true beauty?”
