Tom Homan: Biden ‘inherited the most secure border I’ve seen … they’re lying to the American people’

As the ongoing massive border surge worsens, former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan says that Joe Biden’s open-borders and catch-and-release policies that appear to be a prelude to amnesty have ruined established security measures. “This is the first president in the nation’s history that’s facilitating illegal immigration at our southern border,” Homan declared.

Rejecting a talking point from the administration that the current immigration system is broken, Homan — who worked under six presidents including President Trump —  told Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy that “They inherited the most secure border I’ve seen in my almost 35-year career, so they’re lying to the American people,” in the interview embedded below in two parts.

Homan also noted that he has spoken with the ex-POTUS who “is shocked at how this new administration is selling out our country…I think Donald Trump is concerned about this country, he made it clear to me, and I think he’s gonna stay in the fight, and I’m gonna stay in the fight too.”

Homan, in particular, praised Trump’s Remain in Mexico program, since abandoned by Biden, which required asylum seekers to stay in that country while U.S. officials processed their claims.

Back in January 2021, Homan correctly predicted that “You’re going to see a surge at the border that we’ve never seen before” because of Biden’s open-border promises, in what some would describe as pandering.

While the Biden team is playing word games about whether the border surge constitutes a challenge or a crisis, Doocy pointed out that about 100,000 illegal aliens were apprehended in the last four weeks alone.

“That’s triple what was a year ago under Trump policies…when you release thousands of people into the United States, some with even COVID, and you don’t want to detain them, then you send a clear message to the world. So their actions speak much louder than what the words are attempting to do,” Homan asserted.

“In [2014-20015], we built detention centers, we built 3,000 family beds, we built adult facilities, we held people, and after they lost their case, ICE removed them…The surge went down, because we ended the enticements. They’re doing it the complete opposite now, not by accident, not by incompetence, but by design. This is an open-borders agenda, and they’re not hiding it very well,” he insisted.

The retired lawman also explained that 97 percent of migrants subject to a deportation order from a judge refuse to leave. “What’s the penalty? They’re going to get amnesty under the Biden plan.”

In terms of those who are felons, the deportation of which the Trump administration prioritized, he also claimed that the “90 percent of the criminal aliens ICE arrested last year can not be arrested and removed this year…because of new priorities of the administration,” adding that the administration has allegedly sold out to the progressive agenda.

Biden has watered down ICE interior enforcement efforts, and “Our border is at chaos, and the men and women of Border Patrol deserve better, and the president abandoned them,” Homan concluded.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick separately told Fox News that “we were in good shape on the border before Biden got elected…this is a full-blown disaster that they’ve created…what really makes it bad is that there is no end in sight… President Biden is nothing more than a prop by the left. He has no idea what’s going on there.

Given an absence of law-and-order leadership from D.C., Patrick’s boss, Gov. Greg Abbott is deploying National Guard and state troopers to the border to prevent drug smuggling and human trafficking by cartels or other wrongdoers.

Although Democrats position themselves as consisting of the party of science, the federal government is reportedly not testing migrants for COVID before releasing them into the country.

In the meantime, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democrat, claims that the Biden administration is withholding information on the actual number of illegal immigrants pouring across the southern U.S. border
