Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is deploying law enforcement resources to what is described as “high-threat areas” in direct response to the the massive surge in illegal immigration created by President Joe Biden’s open-borders policies.
Abbott is initiating a program called Operation Lone Star in which Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety state troopers will attempt to restore law and order at the southern border and prevent drug smuggling and human trafficking by cartels or other wrongdoers. Immigration enforcement is primarily a federal function, but Abbott is taking action based the facts on the ground.
In a statement, the GOP governor explained that “The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden Administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration.
“Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans. We will surge the resources and law enforcement personnel needed to confront this crisis,” he added.
Today Texas launched Operation Lone Star to respond to the border crisis.

Upon taking office, the Biden Democrat administration was quick to reverse former President Trump’s border enforcement polices and reinstituted catch and release as well as halting construction of the border wall. Biden also abandoned the Remain in Mexico program for asylum seekers.
The ensuing chaos resulted. Apart from the huge numbers of adults seeking to enter the U.S. without authorization, the feds estimate that nearly 120,000 unaccompanied minors will show up to the border this year.
Democrat Congressman Henry Cuellar of Texas said last week that the Border Patrol detained 10,000 illegal immigrants in the Rio Grande Valley Sector alone in just a one-week period. “We are weeks, maybe even days, away from a crisis on the southern border. Inaction is simply not an option. Our country is currently unprepared to handle a surge in migrants in the middle of the pandemic,” he declared in a statement.
Making matters worse perhaps, despite the thousands pouring across the border, the Department of Homeland Security has announced that most apparently won’t be tested for COVID-19 before they’re released into the interior of the U.S.

This is an interesting development against the backdrop of Biden accusing governors like Abbott, who have lifted a statewide mask mandate, as engaging in “Neanderthal thinking.”
“The Biden administration must stop importing COVID into our country. That is a neanderthal-type approach to dealing with the COVID situation,” Abbott fired back in a media interview, Fox News reported.
In an article, Trump warned that “Our border is now totally out of control thanks to the disastrous leadership of Joe Biden. Our great Border Patrol and ICE agents have been disrespected, demeaned, and mocked by the Biden Administration…
“The spiraling tsunami at the border is overwhelming local communities, depleting budgets, crowding hospitals, and taking jobs from legal American workers. When I left office, we had achieved the most secure border in our country’s history,” he added.
“Under Biden, it will soon be worse, more dangerous, and more out of control than ever before. He has violated his oath of office to uphold our Constitution and enforce our laws,” Trump said.
Most Democrats bitterly opposed Trump’s approach to border security, but are apparently good with National Guard troops and fences around the U.S. Capitol.
