Fmr. Trump official goes after Texas congressional seat in upcoming May 1st special election

There is a massively crowded field looking to fill the seat of the late U.S. Rep. Ron Wright, R-Texas, who died last month after contracting COVID-19. Wright had also been battling lung cancer.

There have been 23 candidates — including 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats — who have filed for the May 1 special election, in the Republican-leaning 6th Congressional District, The Texas Tribune reported. There’s one independent and one libertarian in the race, as well.

Former President Donald Trump carried the district by a narrow 3 pts. in November, and there are two names linked to him associated with the race — one is running and one is not.

Brian Harrison, who was the former chief of staff at the Department of Health and Human Services under Trump, is among the Republicans to throw a hat in the ring, according to the paper.

Harrison made it official in an appearance Wednesday on Fox News:

Former Trump campaign adviser Katrina Pierson, who was seen as a potential major GOP candidate, announced Tuesday evening that she was not running, the Tribune noted.

In a tweet hinting future plans, Pierson said that she has “a greater responsibility to #TakeBackTheHouse.”

Harrison told the Dallas Morning News he would “continue doing damage to the Affordable Care Act.”

“I will do everything I can to keep government from continuing to socialize our health care,” Harrison said. “And quite frankly, President Biden would probably socialize just about every other sector. I want to keep them from being able to do that as well.”

The Morning News felt compelled to inform its readers that Biden “has not proposed socializing every sector of government.”

In a state heavily impacted by illegal immigration, the candidate is making Biden’s “out of control” open border policies a big part of his campaign.

Harrison tweeted: “Joe Biden is undermining Texas’ health and security by allowing thousands of illegal aliens to enter our country.”

Harrison touts himself as the candidate who helped Trump implement his America First agenda.

“I was recruited by the Trump Admin. to help deliver the America First Agenda,” he tweeted on March 1. “In Congress, I will continue the Trump movement.”
