Biden’s Texas visit turns into hot mess after protests, flubbing Rep. Jackson-Lee’s name: ‘What am I doing here?’

President Joe Biden’s trip to Texas on Saturday to thank relief workers for their efforts amid the devastating winter storm that hit the Lone Star State earlier this month attracted a great deal of attention, but for all the wrong reasons.

Reason One: Biden lost his train of thought within the first few seconds of a speech he delivered at NRG Stadium, which has been converted to a FEMA coronavirus camp.

He’d been trying to thank the Texas lawmakers who’d been by his side during the trip.

“I want to thank you, Gov. and Ms. Abbott, for your hospitality and your friendship. And Rep. Senator Cornyn, I think he had to go back, I think he was getting on a plane and he came in to see me last event,” Biden began.

And Reps. Shirley Jackson Lee, Al Green, Sylvia Garcia, Lizzie Panelli, excuse me, Pannill. What am I doing here? I’m going to lose track here. And Mayor Turner, Judge Hidalgo. Thank you all for welcoming us.

Who the heck is Shirley Jackson Lee? He of course meant Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.

Reason Two: Biden’s presence in Houston generated a lot of protests.

As Biden and his wife, first lady Jill Biden, pulled up to the Houston Food Bank, they were accosted by flocks of protesters — far more protesters than supporters, it would appear.

“They were there to protest human rights abuses. They were there to protest immigration policies. And some were even there to protest the very legitimacy of Biden’s presidency, spouting conspiracy theories about a stolen election,” the University of Houston’s Houston Public Media station reported.

One group was reportedly there to draw attention to an alleged genocide of Tigrayans, an ethic group living in Northern Ethiopia, that occurred last year. Earlier in the week Amnesty International released a document documenting these abuses.

“Eritrean troops fighting in Ethiopia’s Tigray state systematically killed hundreds of unarmed civilians in the northern city of Axum on 28-29 November 2020, opening fire in the streets and conducting house-to-house raids in a massacre that may amount to a crime against humanity,” the human rights group announced Thursday.

“Imagine that happening to a place like Houston for three months. We have a population of 6 million people who are really unaccounted for in this world, and no one’s really paying attention to us,” protester Yosef Kidane said to Houston Public Media.

“Kidane and others demanded action from the Biden administration, with people chanting things like ‘stop the Genocide,’ ‘stop the hunger,’ and ‘Eritrean troops out of Tigray,'” according to the station.

“As the largest financial contributer to the United Nations, Kidane said the administration could pressure the U.N. to deploy more resources to the Tigray for humanitarian aid. Protestors also called for the removal of occupying forces from the region.”

As noted earlier, Trump supporters were also present.

“People carried Donald Trump flags that said ‘Keep America Great’ and ‘The Rules Have Changed.’ A white hearse parked nearby displayed an open coffin with a prop ‘mail-in ballot,’ in reference to conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election,” as reported by Houston Public Media.

One of the protesters, Derek Smits, told the station that former President Donald Trump is still president.

“We wanted to basically let everybody know that we still feel that the president is Donald Trump, and we wanted to show our freedom to get out here and do our rights to let everyone know that we support Trump and we feel like the election was stolen,” he said.

As seen above, even illegal alien activists were present, though not to protest Biden’s detention of illegal alien children in small trailers. Instead they showed up to heckle the Trump supporters.

“Just like our commitment was from the very beginning of the Trump presidency, we were going to show up to wherever these folks are to try and shut them down, and to try and educate them on all of the bad things that President Trump has done, and everything bad that he stands for,” activist Cesar Espinosa reportedly said.

He did at least acknowledge that Biden is now detaining illegal alien children and expressed disappointment over it, though not enough disappointment to stop him from praising the president’s extremely late photo-op in Houston.

“Many people lost their lives, many people lost everything. It’s important that he’s here, so he sees the damage firsthand. But more importantly, that he takes a snapshot of Houston, so that he knows what he’s dealing with in terms of population shift, in terms of demographic shift, in terms of language shifts in the United States in the short term,” Espinosa said.

Not everybody feels as happy about Biden’s late presence.
