House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seemed to confuse Wisconsin Republican Senator Ron Johnson with the iconic 1980s “Miami Vice’ star Don Johnson during her press briefing on Thursday.

The actor Don Johnson played James “Sonny” Crockett in the television series and was a huge hit.

Pelosi was in the midst of accusing the Trump-supporting Republican senator of “taking the lead” in the GOP’s response to the Capitol riot on Jan. 6 when she made the mistake. She was corrected by a reporter after getting Ron Johnson’s name wrong and laughed it off. The Hill claims she was mocking Ron Johnson but that is not how it came across to many. A number of leftists on social media claim that she deliberately threw shade at the senator but it is hard to determine just what point that would have made.

“Don Johnson, was his first name Don? What is it Ron?” she asked reporters. They told her, “No.”

“Senator, let me call him. Not ‘Miami Vice’ or anything like that.​ Don Johnson​”​ Pelosi snarked trying to cover for her mistake. “Ron Johnson seems to be taking the lead on what the scope would be of how we look at protecting our country from domestic terrorism.” Pelosi proceeded to heavily emphasize domestic terrorism and how it must be stopped.

Comedian Chris Redd, who is co-starring with Don Johnson and Keenan Thompson in the NBC sitcom “Keenan,” thought it was hilarious. “My dawg @DonJohnson on top of mind of those at the top!” he kidded on Twitter. “Love that.”

The rest of Pelosi’s briefing was not so comical. She went after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell over criticizing her proposal to form a heavy-handed Jan. 6 commission. He called that move “partisan by design.”

Then she made a monumental political reach and accused McConnell of “taking a page out of the book of Senator Johnson” even though their viewpoints on the riot are totally at odds.

“We are talking about domestic terrorism,” Pelosi stated. “That’s what we are trying to get to the bottom of … We’re not going to get into every case of mob violence.”

Pelosi insisted that she wants her proposed 9/11-style commission to be bipartisan although that is allegedly unlikely to happen.

The Speaker addressed how thoroughly the commission should probe former President Trump’s role in the riot. “He’s gone,” she sneered. “Now we need to find out the truth about what happened.”

On Tuesday, Johnson claimed in a congressional hearing that the “great majority of protesters” had a “jovial, friendly, earnest demeanor” and then laid the blame for the violence on “plainclothes militants, agent provocateurs, fake Trump protesters, and disciplined uniformed column of attackers.” Those statements incensed Democrats and a few Republicans as well. His detractors stated that he blatantly spread disinformation.

Senator Johnson is up for reelection for a third term in 2022. He has become a favorite target for Democrats because of his strong support for Trump and for his stance on voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election. He was also one of the senators who contested the results of the Electoral College in key states.
