NBC News blasted after strangely smearing DeSantis’ move to prioritize seniors, Holocaust survivors for vaccine

NBC News ran a truly strange hit piece against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for putting seniors, veterans, and Holocaust survivors at the head of the line for coronavirus vaccinations in his state because they could possibly be Republican voters.

Their headline reads: “Florida governor accused of playing politics with Covid vaccine.” The shameless partisan attack was first published last Thursday. But it really got torched on Saturday when the Peacock Network tweeted out the story.

NBC News senior writer Corky Siemaszko shamefully attempted to smear DeSantis and baselessly insinuated that his vaccine distribution plan had been “marked by chaos.” He also claimed that “critics say he’s been quick to recognize the political gold in those precious doses” because he “ignored federal guidelines and prioritized getting senior citizens” the COVID-19 vaccinations first.

“When Holocaust survivors and Cuban survivors of the Bay of Pigs debacle — revered members of two other key Florida voting blocs — got their first shots, DeSantis made sure he was there for the news conferences,” Siemaszko accusingly stated.

“Now the governor stands accused of using the Covid-19 vaccine to reward powerful political supporters and developers by setting up pop-up vaccination sites in planned communities they developed and where GOP voters predominate,” Siemaszko stated, adding that DeSantis has focused on Florida’s retirement communities. Ostensibly because that is where the most vulnerable elderly reside. Florida has the second oldest population in the nation.

Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz surfaced to slam DeSantis along with the Charlotte County Democratic Party Chair Teresa Jenkins. They even went after him for highlighting that a 94-year-old Korean war veteran was inoculated.

NBC was also forced to issue a correction after they falsely stated that “a prominent donor to Gov. DeSantis” had alleged ties to a specific vaccination station. That is an accusation that politically motivated Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist is also dishonestly pushing.

Wasserman Schultz accused DeSantis of threatening Manatee County.

“To threaten that he would pull vaccine if people don’t like the way the distribution system is working is vile and shows the callous indifference he has had in how the vaccine has been handled,” she snarled.

Siemaszko also quoted coronavirus statistics for Florida and claimed they had “some of the worst numbers in the nation.”

“Florida, according to the latest NBC News tally, has reported 1.84 million Covid-19 infections and nearly 30,000 deaths due to the coronavirus, some of the worst numbers in the nation,” the intrepid reporter said.

“Most of those infections and deaths came after DeSantis, a staunch Trump supporter, claimed victory over the virus during a White House visit in April and reopened the state over the objections of health experts,” he added.

In reality, Florida’s numbers are not “some of the worst numbers in the nation.” They currently rank 27th in death rates per 100,000 people. Florida ranks 30th in case numbers per 100,000 people.

“What an absurd botched hit piece,” stated Republican strategist Matt Whitlock. Many on social media strongly agreed with that assessment.
