New York Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney was sworn-in on Thursday but Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi inexplicably decided to block Tenney’s son, who is a Naval Academy graduate, from attending the ceremony.
Tenney was allowed to have one family member present in the gallery and she chose her son, according to the Daily Caller. But Pelosi reportedly refused to allow him to attend. It is unknown why the Democrat decided Tenney’s son could not watch from the gallery.
“I guess he’s considered a risk,” Tenney told the outlet, adding that Pelosi notified her that her son was not allowed to be present for the event in a “text from staff and in person.” She also reported that there were “several exchanges.” Tenney is reportedly outraged that her son was treated so shabbily by Pelosi. The single mother had repeatedly requested that her son be able to sit in the gallery and Pelosi’s office simply said “no.”
According to the congresswoman, the refusal ostensibly had nothing to do with COVID as Tenney’s son is in charge of COVID protocols for the Marine station that he runs. There was never a reason indicated by Pelosi other than it was not safe. Tenney felt it showed a lack of civility and arrogance on Pelosi’s part to deny her son’s attendance, as she noted in a Fox News interview. She believes she was being punished by Pelosi.

Tenney also pointed out that Pelosi allowed a COVID-positive member to be in the House Chamber who was supposed to be separated by a plexiglass barrier. That member was allowed to be there to vote for Pelosi for Speaker of the House.

Today @speakerpelosi’s staff denied the request for @claudiatenney’s son, a graduate of the US Naval Academy, to be in the gallery.”

Tenney’s son, Trey Cleary, graduated in 2013 from the Naval Academy. He is now a captain in the United States Marines. Former President Trump reportedly called Tenney’s son just before he deployed to Iraq back in 2017.
Tenney was sworn-in Thursday as the Republican representative of New York’s 22nd district after a long, protracted highly-contested election battle spanning three months. She was finally declared the winner.

The congresswoman was initially elected in 2016. In the 2018 midterms, Tenney lost to Democrat Anthony Brindisi. They faced off again in November and Tenney proceeded to defeat Brindisi by a brutally thin margin of 109 votes out of more than 300,000 votes that were cast in her district.
