Mike Cernovich: Why I’m running for the governor of California when Newsom gets the boot

With enough signatures apparently in reach to trigger a recall of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, author and filmmaker Mike Cernovich has announced his intention to run against the deeply unpopular, lockdown-loving Democrat. At the same time, Cernovich acknowledged that he has no chance of winning, but that’s not his goal. He wants to hold Newsom accountable for what he characterized as human rights violations.

In a somewhat irreverent, rambling (which is his style), 20-minute Periscope video, a cigar-smoking Cernovich said that “there is zero percent chance I could win in California…I have no delusions about that. But if I can get enough of a base of support, then I can force ‘hair-gel Hitler,’ which is what we call Newsom…to answer for his war crimes, his human rights violations, because his lockdowns, which by the way he didn’t follow, are human rights violations.”

In an apparent reference to Newsom, Cernovich continued that “you’re destroying businesses, you’re destroying economic prosperity. you’re destroying the lives of children…the lockdowns are a crime against humanity.” The Orange County resident and independent voter also noted that Newsom sends his own kids to private school where they are receiving the benefit of in-person learning.

The grassroots Newsom recall effort gained tremendous momentum after the governor was caught violating his own stay-at-home rules by partying at an upscale eatery in northern California. Cernovich recalled how Newsom was just one of many high-level political figures or members of the “power elite” who flouted their own regulations during the height of the COVID pandemic.

Watch Cernovich’s monologue embedded below and draw your own conclusions:

No stranger to controversy, the social media influencer has been described as a right-wing provocateur, a far-right conspiracy theorist, and a conservative firebrand, but Cernovich is more of a populist who has developed apolitical content in the self-improvement space. He has also broken stories that the mainstream media ignored. In addition, he produced “Hoaxed,” a highly regarded documentary about the fake news promulgated by the corporate media.

By throwing his hat in the ring in an election that is likely to attract many candidates across the political spectrum who want to replace Newsom if he is recalled, Cernovich acknowledged that Democrats are likely to engage in smear tactics and try to “gulag him,” but that won’t discourage him.

“By running for governor of California, we know that Nancy Pelosi is gonna come for me. We know the Democrats are going to come for my head…they’ll retaliate against me. That’s what these people do…we’re in a moment of if not now, then when? If not me, then who?” he said.

Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer as well as businessman John Cox, who lost to Newsom in 2018, are among the GOP candidates planning to run if the recall qualifies for the ballot, if the current valid signature trend holds. “If the measure qualifies, voters will be asked two questions in an election later this year: whether they support the recall of Newsom, and which candidate they want to replace him if the recall is successful,” the Los Angeles Times observed.

“Newsom has never explained why he violated lockdown guidelines. The only answer is that he wants to destroy small businesses to enrich his corporate donors. He’s fascist,” Mike Cernovich separately claimed.
