Freshman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Sen. Mitt Romney briefly exchanged barbs online Saturday after the Utah Republican suggested the Georgia firebrand was lying about 2020 election results.
The Utah Republican fired the first volley, which came in response to a tweet from MSNBC senior producer Kyle Griffin, who wrote, “The Republican congresswoman from Georgia just tweeted that she has the support of Trump and that she spoke with him this morning.”
“Lies of a feather flock together: Marjory Taylor Greene’s nonsense and the ‘big lie’ of a stolen election,” Romney wrote.

The jab from Romney prompted a spicy response from the Georgia Republican.
“‘Republican’ Senator Mitt Romney obviously cares nothing about the people’s number one concern. Please grow a pair or a spine,” she wrote.

Taylor Greene has become a target for Democrats who claim that she is a threat to other lawmakers and she supports “sedition.”
“Her very presence in office represents a direct threat against the elected officials and staff who serve our government, and it is with their safety in mind, as well as the security of institutions and public servants across our country,” said Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.) last week, adding he planned to introduce a resolution to expel her from the House for allegedly posing a “direct threat” to members.
After suggesting that previous social media posts advocated for violence against the FBI and Democrats, Gomez said Taylor Greene has made threats in the past and that her claims of election fraud were also troubling.
His decision, he said, was based on “numerous reports revealing her repeated endorsements of sedition, domestic terrorism, and political violence.”
Gomez’ demand to expel Greene comes after she filed articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden after his inauguration Jan. 20.
“President Joe Biden is unfit to hold the office of the Presidency. His pattern of abuse of power as President Obama’s Vice President is lengthy and disturbing. President Biden has demonstrated that he will do whatever it takes to bail out his son, Hunter, and line his family’s pockets with cash from corrupt foreign energy companies,” she said in a statement.
“President Biden is even on tape admitting to a quid pro quo with the Ukrainian government threatening to withhold $1,000,000,000 in foreign aid if they did not do his bidding. President Biden residing in the White House is a threat to national security and he must be immediately impeached,” she added.
As for Romney, his popularity among Republicans in his state appears to be tanking — though he’s doing well with Democrats.
A just-released survey shows that the two-time failed GOP presidential contender’s popularity in Utah has declined again after he suggested he supported the unprecedented second impeachment of former President Donald Trump.
“A new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll found 64% of Republicans in the state disapprove of his job performance, including half who strongly disapprove,” the outlet reported last week.
“His comments about President Trump escalated over the past several months, particularly the last couple of weeks,” said Jason Perry, director of the institute.
“But what will be more interesting is what happens over the coming months and years when he is no longer put in the position of being expected to be in opposition to the leader of his own party,” Perry told the Deseret News.
The same survey found that “while only a third of GOP voters approve of Romney, 84% of Democrats in the state like the job he’s doing,” Deseret News added.
