Meghan McCain is not considered a true conservative by many Republicans, but there are times when she really nails it. On The View Monday, she addressed the calls from those on the left, such as veteran journalist Katie Couric, for the ‘deprogramming’ of Trump supporters. She didn’t hold back in the least and wound up telling those supporting the move “to go to hell.”
“In regards to Democrats,” McCain naively stated, “what’s interesting to me is… I had sort of assumed after President Biden won that the feeling of unity and coming together would be…something that would be happening — that Democrats would be wanting Republicans to come together with them to go forward.”
And McCain did not stop there. She aggressively went after Couric.
“Instead we’re hearing a lot of language from people like Katie Couric that Republicans like me need to be ‘deprogramed,’ that we’re brainwashed — that 74 million Americans are basically irredeemable people, that we don’t need to communicate…in any way have anything to do with,” McCain said. “I think it’s horribly dangerous for the country and I also think it’s horribly dangerous for Democrats.”

That’s when McCain dropped the hammer on the proposal, pointing to the 4 in 10 Republicans out there who feel disenfranchised.
“If President Biden and Democrats want to have a Big Tent party and include some of these people, great. And if we’re all just deplorable and need to be deprogrammed, as Katie Couric said, then honestly, they can go to hell because I don’t need to be deprogrammed!”
McCain went on to state: “I just have a different perspective on how the government should be run.”
For context, here is the actual quote from Couric. “I also think some of them are believing the garbage that they are being fed 24/7 on the internet, by their constituents, and they bought into this big lie,” Couric told Bill Maher on his show earlier in the month. “And the question is how are we going to really almost deprogram these people who have signed up for the cult of Trump.”
On one hand we’re supposed to “heal and have unity” – on the other were all brainwashed and need to be “deprogrammed”? (whatever the hell that means)
It’s arguably the most condescending language ever used towards 74 million Americans and that is a very, very low bar to break…

Leftists were quick to charge McCain as being a secret Trump supporter on social media. But her record belies that. McCain is no fan of Trump’s and never has been. But she apparently can’t stomach leftists who think that because those on the right have a different political opinion, they should be forced to ‘think differently’.
Politics makes very strange bedfellows and McCain’s sentiments are echoed by those such as Kid Rock, who sent a tweet showing his disdain for “deprogramming” of political beliefs as well.

There are a number of voices on the left calling for deprogramming of Trump supporters these days. And they seem to just be getting louder, much to the alarm of many Americans. For instance, Washington Post associate editor Eugene Robinson said during an appearance on MSNBC that “there are millions of Americans, almost all White, almost all Republicans, who somehow need to be reprogrammed.” He went on to say, “It is as though they are members of a cult, the Trumpist cult.”
Cornell Law School professor and media critic William A. Jacobson is stating that “threats of ‘deprogramming’ Trump supporters have become “common among liberal journalists,” and he labeled Couric as part of a “media complex” that deliberately stifled negative opinions and news about Biden during the 2020 presidential campaign.
The question now becomes whether the left is serious and will carry out their alleged threats on deprogramming. Many Americans are fearful of what the answer to that question may be considering the current political climate.
