A Wisconsin hospital has reversed course and now admits that 57 vials of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine were intentionally left unrefrigerated overnight once an employee allegedly owned up to the spoilage. Previously, the medical center attributed the incident to “inadvertent human error.”
The spoiled vials meant that 500-plus potential doses had to be thrown out. According to protocols, vials of the medication need to be stored in a pharmacy refrigerator at low temperatures to maintain efficacy.
The facility fired the healthcare worker allegedly involved.
The incident occurred at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, Wisc., about 20 miles north of Milwaukee. Aurora issued a statement about the outcome of a prompt probe:
“We immediately launched an internal review and were led to believe this was caused by inadvertent human error. The individual in question today acknowledged that they intentionally removed the vaccine from refrigeration. We are more than disappointed that this individual’s actions will result in a delay of more than 500 people receiving their vaccine. This was a violation of our core values, and the individual is no longer employed by us.”
The statement was silent as to any potential or possible motive on the part of the healthcare worker.

The hospital added that it had notified authorities, without specifying which ones. The facility also claimed that it had obtained vaccines from other hospitals and thus the rollout was not disrupted. Within the state of Wisconsin, nearly 50,000 shots have been dispensed so far. Non-profit parent organization Aurora Health Care operates 15 hospitals in the state.
“We continue to believe that vaccination is our way out of the pandemic,” Aurora noted.
Subsequent information indicates that the Grafton police department, the FBI, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are investigating.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, close to 3 million persons have received the initial dose (of a two-dose process) of one of the several COVID vaccines being rolled out as part of the Trump administration’s Operation Warp Speed initiative. More than 12 million doses have been shipped.
President Trump announced in the spring that a vaccine could be made available by year’s end, a prediction that turned out to be accurate despite knee-jerk skepticism from the corporate media and the experts they rely upon.

According to a Gallup poll released in mid-November 2020, 58 percent of Americans indicated willingness to get an FDA-approved COVID shot (up from 50 percent in a September survey), while 42 percent would decline. Those in the latter category reportedly expressed concern about the rushed timeline for vaccine development and related safety concerns.
