It looks like the New York Post is no longer on the Trump Train. The heretofore pro-Trump publication wants President Donald Trump to abandon his challenge to the Election 2020 outcome, describing it as a “dark charade” and — in the context of a formal challenge on January 6 in Congress to certifying the election results — accusing him of cheerleading for “an undemocratic coup.”
“Stop the Insanity,” the front page of the print version roars.
“If you want to cement your influence, even set the stage for a future return, you must channel your fury into something more productive,” the news outlet advised the president in the text of the editorial.
The premise of the essay by the Post’s editorial board seem to be that Trump is taking his eye off the ball, i.e., not making sure the GOP wins both of the legacy-protecting, all-important U.S. Senate runoffs in Georgia on January 5.
“If Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler win, they will prevent Biden from rolling back what you have accomplished…Securing the Senate means securing your legacy. You should use your considerable charm and influence to support the Georgia candidates, mobilizing your voters for them. Focus on their success, not your own grievances, as we head into the final week,” the Post wrote, in part.
“You had every right to investigate the election. But let’s be clear: Those efforts have found nothing,” the Post insisted, apparently joining a long list of corporate media outlets that have decided that allegations of irregularities aren’t worth probing because there was no widespread fraud. To say the least, the court system has been skittish about intervening in the election for separation-of-powers and other too-hot-to-handle considerations.
The editorial also slammed former federal prosecutor Sidney Powell as “a crazy person” and condemned Gen. Michael Flynn’s comment about marital law as almost treasonous.
“You came out of nowhere to win the presidency. Not an elected official, not a lawyer, not beholden to any particular faction of the swamp. You took on the elites and the media who had long lost touch with average working people. You changed politics, which is something few in American history can say, If Georgia falls, all that is threatened,” the editorial declared.
In the alternative, the vast majority of President Trump’s nearly 75 million voters probably think hocus-pocus that occurred in the early morning hours after the election in certain key precincts constitutes an undemocratic coup, to use the Post’s words, which will only embolden the Democrats to employ similar techniques in future elections.
Trump is, moreover, heading back to Georgia on January 4 for a campaign rally for Perdue and Loeffler, so he is fully capable of multi-tasking. A narrative is also making the media rounds, apparently without evidence, that Trump’s challenge to the voting process could be harmful to the prospects of the two incumbent GOP senators.

Trump has continued to insist vocally and via Twitter (which labels each tweet with the disclaimer that voter fraud claims are under dispute) that the election was rigged against him, and in his own, unfiltered communications style, expressed his disappointment with Senate Republicans and the U.S. Supreme Court, which is probably part of what the New York Post doesn’t like.

In a 10-minute video address on December 23, he provided a concise but comprehensive update about why he is determined to pursue all legal and constitutional options available and that his team has compiled “overwhelming evidence of election fraud.”

Separately, White House Trade advisor Peter Navarro has produced, on his own time, a 36-page report with 147 footnotes called The Immaculate Deception in which he outlined six dimensions of potential fraud in six swing states which caused, in his view, Trump’s insurmountable Election Night lead to evaporate.
“We understand, Mr. President, that you’re angry that you lost. But to continue down this road is ruinous…Democrats will try to write you off as a one-term aberration and, frankly, you’re helping them do it. The King Lear of Mar-a-Lago, ranting about the corruption of the world….If you insist on spending your final days in office threatening to burn it all down, that will be how you are remembered. Not as a revolutionary, but as the anarchist holding the match,” the Post concluded in its editorial that was headlined “Give it up, Mr. President — for your sake and the nation’s.”
