All Finn Dove wanted to do was be a hated bad guy, but instead he wound up becoming one of the most beloved 3-year-olds on the planet.

It all started when, while celebrating Christmas at his parents’ Alabama home, Finn and his two cousins got it into their heads to use a green marker to “paint” Finn into a bad guy as part of the game they were playing. Sounds good, right?

And it was all good up until Finn’s mother caught them in the act. Ruh oh!

Watch what happened next, courtesy sports anchor Rick Karle of Birmingham station WVTM:

Finn promptly began apologizing.

“We wanted to be bad guys. That’s why we did it. And we’re sorry. Are you mad at us?” he said.

“I’m pretty upset,” his mom replied.

“Is daddy going to be mad too?” Finn then said.

“Who knows? Who knows?” his mom responded.

And then came the young “bad guy’s” moment of enlightenment.

“Maybe we should think about what we done,” he said.

But Finn’s mom wasn’t convinced.

“You think thinking about what you’ve done is going to take away the marker all over your chest,” she asked.

“If we take a bath, it will,” Finn replied.

Fact-check: TRUE.

The video concluded with Finn’s mother giving the three a life sentence.

“You are officially never allowed to use a marker again,” she said.

Brutal … but hey, don’t do the crime, don’t do the time!

“But we use them to draw,” Finn tried rebutting.

“Well, try paper next time,” his mom said.

“Yes, ma’am,” Finn replied.

Now, while Finn must obviously pay a dear price for his mission to become a “bad guy,” he’s since become a beloved international sensation for many reasons.

One of those reasons is his incredibly polite demeanor and willingness to take responsibility:

Another reason is that Finn and his cousins reminded parents of their own children.

While Finn earned himself some new fans, his mother meanwhile got herself some new critics who felt that she was too tough on him and should “lighten up.”

Speaking of pardons, President Donald Trump reportedly hasn’t finished his pardoning spree yet, so you never know …
