Despite some bipartisan support for reworking the widely panned ostensible coronavirus relief bill/omnibus combo that in fact hands out more money to foreign nations than it does to struggling American citizens, CNN’s “journalists” are convinced that President Donald Trump’s own interest in reworking the bill is rooted in something more sinister.
During a disturbing rant on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” Tuesday evening, CNN White House “correspondent” John Harwood — a so-called “journalist” whose “journalism” is as disreputable as that of Brian Stelter — laid out a full-fledged conspiracy theory to explain the president’s opposition to the current bills.
According to Harwood, the reason for the president’s opposition to the bills is that he’s trying to “burn the house down” because he “lost” the 2020 presidential election.
“One of the things that I’ve wondered since the election is that, with Donald Trump having lost, he’s choking psychologically on that defeat. He can’t handle it. It’s a blow to his ego and his reputation, the idea that he’s a loser to Joe Biden,” Harwood said.
“[I’ve] wondered whether he was going to try to burn the house down on the way out of office. He of course has done nothing on the coronavirus. He’s basically vacated the Oval Office for most purposes.”
That was a complete lie. As just one example, earlier this month the president signed an “America First” executive order to ensure Americans receive the coronavirus vaccine before other nations.
Listen to Harwood’s conspiracy theorizing below:
“In this case, you finally had both chambers of Congress coming together on a $900 billion compromise. The president has put out a statement tonight, completely dishonest. He read a bunch of provisions and said they were in the COVID relief bill. That’s false,” Harwood continued.
“They’re in the spending bill which was attacked to the COVID relief bill. They move together to one piece of legislation. So he was suggesting Congress had put these wasteful items in.”
But Congress had indeed “put these wasteful items in” to the wider omnibus bill. As for the president conflating the omnibus with the relief bill, that may very well have been a mistake. Even Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez has admitted it’s all very “confusing”:
For people asking about the insane & corrupt tax giveaways in the deal (ex. the “3 martini lunch” trash 🚮) much of that gross stuff is actually the omnibus.
It’s a little confusing, but basically there’s 3 major components to the COVID deal:
3. COVID relief

Harwood continued by trotting out another conspiracy theory.
“Congress might override the veto … but if he vetoes the bill, many of these Republican congressmen who were so scared of him may not vote to override the veto of the bill they had just supported. So it’s possible that he could kill this bill,” Harwood says.
“If he kills this bill, I think that would be a terrible blow to those two Republican Senate candidates in Georgia who Mitch McConnell was trying to help with this bill.”
The theory this time was that the president may purposefully be threatening to veto the relief bill to hurt incumbent Georgia Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.
“The president after the election, when he was asked about Republicans down-ballot doing well but him losing, he said ‘all these Republicans won and I’m the one who lost?’ That offended him. It’s possible that he has embarked on a course where he’s trying to take other Republicans down with him by criticizing the bill that they just voted for,” Harwood explained.
It’s also possible — though highly unlikely — that CNN is a real news network …
The conspiracy theory-laden rant was a response to the president posting a video message late Tuesday slamming the coronavirus relief bill agreed to by Congress and threatening to veto it unless $1600 in additional relief money is added on for struggling Americans.
Trump calls for revamp of ‘disgrace’ relief bill, almost nothing to do with COVID, Dems only jump on 2k bump https://t.co/Y7UdrTpeqT via @BIZPACReview

Even some Democrat politicians seemed to approve the message, though they of course disingenuously tried to claim the idea was theirs.
Case in point:
Let’s do it. @RashidaTlaib and I already co-wrote the COVID amendment for $2,000 checks, so it’s ready to go.
Glad to see the President is willing to support our legislation.
We can pass $2k checks this week if the Senate GOP agrees to stand down. https://t.co/GprwrUPali pic.twitter.com/nFFs1ExqCK
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) December 23, 2020
Republicans repeatedly refused to say what amount the President wanted for direct checks. At last, the President has agreed to $2,000 — Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent. Let’s do it! https://t.co/Th4sztrpLV
— Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) December 23, 2020
FYI, only hours earlier, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had defended the $600 payment.
Regardless, according to “journalist” John Hardwood of CNN, it’s apparently inconceivable that the president might feel the same way. And thus, as usual, there must be some sinister conspiracy behind his actions …
