Common sense and mere day-to-day observations indicate that if First Lady Melania Trump was married to a Democrat politician, she’d enjoy a worshipful, wide-ranging media profile plus be featured on the cover of all the fashion magazines (assuming the latter is even still relevant). For the close-minded liberal elitists who control most of the communications outlets, however, politics sadly “trumps’ everything.
“Throughout the past four years, Melania Trump has never been given the same benefit of the doubt enjoyed by previous first ladies. The mocking, cajoling, and lack of respect by the left-wing media and opponents of the president has been shameful and undeserving,” former GOP Congressman Jason Chaffetz insisted.
In an Op-Ed for the Fox News website, Chaffetz lamented the antagonistic treatment, if not outright cancelling, of the very accomplished, Slovenia-born Mrs. Trump in media precincts as a missed opportunity to celebrate the American Dream:
“Having a first lady who is herself an immigrant, who speaks five languages, and who comes from far outside the elite circles of government is a story that exemplifies the American experiment. Had this first lady been the wife of a Democratic president, the media would have been clamoring to tell her story and to get her commentary an array of issues.”
Chaffetz contrasted the portrait painted by the left-wing media of Melania Trump, who is generally non-political, versus the fawning coverage of Michelle Obama and (already) “Dr.” Jill Biden.
“Mrs. Trump deserves to be recognized as an exceptional first lady. With little fanfare and tremendous pushback from some of the most vocal segments of society, she managed to launch a successful anti-bullying campaign, conduct important outreach abroad, protect her teenage son from relentless bullying, and serve as an inspiration to those trying to integrate into American culture. All without making any major missteps.”
Separately reacting to a fake story that Melania Trump violating mask rules during a visit to a D.C. children’s hospital, Fox News contributor Joe Concha asserted that “Melania Trump, the first lady, has been treated more poorly by a country mile than any other first lady in history, and that’s a shame.”

“I find it sad that an unscrupulous liberal media treated Mrs. Trump so unfairly compared to their obsequious coverage of former first lady Michelle Obama and now Jill Biden. Even traditionally nonpolitical outlets ignored Mrs. Trump and dismissed her,” Chaffetz continued in his opinion essay.
Chaffetz also noted, as alluded to above, that despite the FLOTUS’s resume as a successful fashion model, “we didn’t get the barrage of stories about Mrs. Trump’s wardrobe choices that bombarded us when Michelle Obama was first lady. Many didn’t miss such coverage, but the discrepancy is telling.”
Parenthetically, anyone who has followed the history of the Reagan administration is also aware that the media considered a designer wardrobe unacceptable when Nancy Reagan was First Lady, unlike the philosophy that prevailed during the Obama presidency.

In the official Christmas photo, the always-glamorous First Lady opted for a black pantsuit, rather than a traditional dress, that matched her husband’s attire, as she and the POTUS passed along holiday greetings to the country.
“Mrs. Trump leaves behind a legacy as a classy and compassionate first lady who was deserving of the respect owed the office,” Chaffetz concluded.
Although the comparison obviously does not rise to the same magnitude, the corporate media’s treatment of former Alaska Gov. and GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin would have been entirely different if she was a pro-choice Democrat with otherwise the same background/baggage.
