The campaign to recall California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom over his heavy-handed response to a coronavirus surge appears to be gaining momentum.

“The criticism of Newsom extends to the hypocrisy he showed when he violated his own guidelines to attend an indoor dinner party,” Fox News’ Trace Gallagher noted. “The governor [is] also accused of pandering to big business when he ordered many small businesses closed while allowing big box stores to stay open.”

Gallagher reported that a recall petition has 828,000 signatures out of the 1.5 million needed to get the issue on the ballot, and spoke with Randy Economy, a senior adviser to the Recall Gavin Newson movement, asking him why this recall effort is different.

“What makes it different is Gavin Newsom himself,” Economy stated. “This governor is his own worst enemy and every day he does something more that puts him deeper and deeper into controversy, and he has become a problem here in California.

“He shut down the fifth largest economy in the world for the last nine months and every single person out there in California should be outraged by that,” he continued. “We’re being held hostage in our own homes and he is out with multi-million dollar lobbyists and pay-to-play people to go ahead and have private dinners in wineries in Northern California and it’s an outrage while we get stuck at home.”

When asked what compels people to want Newson out, Economy said there are multiple reasons.

“It is a combination of his own missteps and it’s all about him and his record and how he has been just an absolute disaster of a governor for the past year and a half. People have had it,” he said.

As just one example of someone who’s ‘had it’, BPR reported on a  gut-wrenching video that surfaced on Monday. It captured a Ventura County restaurant owner sparring with public health officials who were threatening to shut his business down.

“Are you going to pay my rent?!’ The exasperated business owner asked.

On Tuesday, another video emerged of a frustrated ‘hero’ who took a bullhorn and shouted his frustrations over Gov. Newsom’s draconian lockdowns in the middle of an L.A. Costco.

California man sounds off over Gov. Newsom’s lockdown. Tells people in LA Costco that it’s time to ‘stand up.’

On that note, 82,235 Californians moved to Texas last year, according to the Seattle Times, this number down just slightly from the 10-year peak in 2018 of 86,164.

According to a U.S. Census Bureau analysis from 2010-2019, 687,000 Californians have moved to Texas alone over the last decade.

Gallagher noted that even people on the left agree, before asking his guest if they have the needed money and support to prevail.

“We have support,” Economy insisted. “And, like I said, we have 828,000 people who have gone to RecallGavin2020.com.”

“And of course we need money, he added, “We need the $20 and $50 donations and yes, there are a lot of people who want to become governor of California and this is their opportunity to step up and say, ‘Listen, I’m going to invest in this recall not only my time, my energy, my effort but put a few dollars here as well.'”

He said most of their contributions “are from just the average working person not only here in California but throughout the country who are sick and tired of being preached to every single day in a camera by a governor who is completely out of touch with reality.”

The last time a governor was recalled in California was in 2003, with former Gov. Gray Davis, which resulted in Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming governor.
