Rush Limbaugh hits a nerve, believes America is likely heading ‘toward secession’

Rush Limbaugh is finding it harder to believe that there can be a “peaceful coexistence” between liberals and conservatives in America.

The conservative radio host told his listeners Wednesday that he hoped there was a “way to unite and win,” but acknowledged his fear that the nation is “trending toward secession.” Limbaugh lamented the political divide in America after addressing a caller’s request for ideas on how to bridge differences and reunite the country again.

“So during the obscene profit time-out mere moments ago, Mr. Snerdley, the Official Program Observer, peppered me with a question,” Limbaugh said after a commercial break on The Rush Limbaugh Show Wednesday.

“Mr. Snerdley is asking if we’re ever going to be able to win. And he’s talking about elections. Votes,” he continued. “Are we ever gonna be able to win without taking back some of these cities? He’s talking about blue cities like New York, Philadelphia.”

“I thought you were asking me something else when you said, ‘Can we win?’ I thought you meant, ‘Can we win the culture, can we dominate the culture,'” Limbaugh said.

“I actually think — and I’ve referenced this, I’ve alluded to this a couple of times because I’ve seen others allude to this — I actually think that we’re trending toward secession,” the radio giant added. “I see more and more people asking what in the world do we have in common with the people who live in, say, New York? What is there that makes us believe that there is enough of us there to even have a chance at winning New York? Especially if you’re talking about votes.”

He noted that he has seen recent blogs about “how distant and separated and how much more separated our culture is becoming politically and that it can’t go on this way.”

“There cannot be a peaceful coexistence of two completely different theories of life, theories of government, theories of how we manage our affairs. We can’t be in this dire a conflict without something giving somewhere along the way,” Limbaugh warned.

“And I know that there’s a sizable and growing sentiment for people who believe that that is where we’re headed, whether we want to or not — whether we want to go there or not,” he continued, adding that he is not yet sold on the idea.

“I myself haven’t made up my mind. I still haven’t given up the idea that we are the majority and that all we have to do is find a way to unite and win,” he said.

He contended that the problem “is the fact that there are just so many RINOs, so many Republicans in the Washington establishment who will do anything to maintain their membership in the establishment because of the perks and the opportunities that are presented for their kids and so forth.”

Though Limbaugh clearly stated he thinks the nation is “trending toward secession” and was not advocating for a split, the left jumped on the remarks to bash him for everything from “sedition” to “treason.”

Talk of “civil war” found its way onto Twitter where the phrase was trending, mainly triggered by the ongoing-election battle but also, many on the social media platform accused Limbaugh of saying something he didn’t.

Earlier on Limbaugh’s show, a caller named Jamie from Shelbyville, Kentucky had told the radio host that “we have to get our brilliant, resourceful, truth-seeking, freedom-loving heads and hearts together and fight like our future depends on it.”

“If you wanted to try to narrow down my purpose for 30 years, that’s been it. Get people to see the truth. Get people to see the truth about the left, my whole purpose for being here,” Limbaugh responded, adding that he has also sought to “educate and inform people about the American left and the Democrat Party and give them sufficient information that would allow them to reject the Democratic Party, to abandon the Democratic Party, to believe and to understand that the Democrat Party is a black hole.”
