The scandal surrounding Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell’s relationship with a Chinese spy nicknamed Fang Fang, now has Republicans demanding to know when House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi first learned of it.

According to a new report from the New York Post, all of Swalwell’s Republican colleagues on the House Intelligence Committee just learned about the relationship this week, despite Swalwell having been warned about Fang’s links to the Chinese Communist Party back in 2015.

“A congressional Republican source told the Post that Intelligence Committee Republicans had not been informed of the relationship,” the Post confirmed Wednesday.

“The committee is supposed to have access to some of the nation’s most sensitive information to fulfill its oversight role of shadowy government programs.”

Plus, one would think that Swalwell would have told all his colleagues on the committee, “Hey, a Chinese spy duped me and my campaign!”

Bombshell reporting from Axios this week revealed that Swalwell was among a handful of Democrat politicians who’d developed a relationship with Fang, a Chinese spy who’d been assigned to target up-and-coming politicians in the Bay Area.

Axios further reported that some of the relationships Fang wound up fostering were sexual in nature, but stopped short of naming names.

As for Swalwell, Axios reported, “Fang took part in fundraising activity for Swalwell’s 2014 re-election campaign, according to a Bay Area political operative and a current U.S. intelligence official. Swalwell’s office was directly aware of these activities on its behalf, the political operative said.”

“Federal Election Commission records don’t indicate Fang herself made donations, which are prohibited from foreign nationals. Fang helped place at least one intern in Swalwell’s office, according to those same two people, and interacted with Swalwell at multiple events over the course of several years.”

Federal authorities alerted Swalwell about Fang’s illicit ties in 2015, at which point he reportedly “cut off all ties” to her. She left the country later that same year.

The matter then appeared disappeared up until Axios reported on it this week.

What remains unclear is whether Swalwell’s Democrat colleagues were also unaware of the relationship. The Post reportedly asked all of his Democrat colleagues, including  Schiff, when exactly they’d learned of his ties to Fang, but they apparently never responded.

Questions have also arisen over whether Pelosi had been aware of it.

“Did Schiff and Pelosi know? Why did no one take any steps to keep sensitive intel, at least as it relates to China, far away from a member who is at best potentially compromised?” an unnamed Republican reportedly close to the White House told the Post.

Speaking on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle Tuesday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy reiterated the same line of questioning.

“[China] helps a city council member become a congressman. This congressman now gets on the intel committee. They are only selected from the intel committee by the leaders of their party, meaning Nancy Pelosi. Nancy Pelosi is one of the Gang of Eight, along with myself. Did Nancy Pelosi know this had transpired when she put him on the committee?” he said.

McCarthy further rightly noted that Swalwell isn’t the only Bay Area congressional Democrat who’s been linked to Chinese spies, which raises the question of just exactly how much influence has the CCP had on their actions.

“Why did the Democrats pull out of the bipartisan China task force I had set up? Why did Speaker Pelosi pull out of that? Why have they denied certain bills that would hold China accountable, that have passed the Senate, not come to the floor?” he said.

Fair questions.

“Why do they focus on Silicon Valley members of Congress? Why is he still on the intel committee, let alone why is he still a member of Congress? Did Adam Schiff know as chairman of that committee that he had this problem?” he continued.

“Remember what the intel committee gets, information that no other members are able to see. And remember what this member did: He was so preoccupied going after this president, he wasn’t protecting our country from bad actors.”

Pelosi meanwhile refuses to reveal when she learned of the relationship and has reverted to attacking Republicans — the perpetual bad guys — as usual.

“Minority Leader McCarthy is trying to distract from his continued kowtowing to QAnon and his refusal to heed the call of the Anti-Defamation League to refuse to seat his QAnon members on congressional committees, including critical national security committees,” her spokesperson said to the Post when questioned about the matter.

“The speaker has full confidence in Congressman Swalwell’s service in the Congress and on the Intelligence Committee,” the spokesperson added, confirming that the speaker intends to keep the Democrat lawmaker on the committee despite all the conflicts of interest.
