Owner of Staten Island tavern gives troubling update after arrest for defying Cuomo’s lockdown order

With about 1,000 peaceful protesters/supporters in the background, Staten Island bar co-owner Danny Presti and his lawyer Lou Gelormino gave Tucker Carlson and his viewers an update about what happened after he was arrested on Tuesday night for disorderly conduct after allegedly violating New York’s arbitrary and perhaps politically-motivated COVID lockdowns.

Following the “whole big ordeal” of his arrest, Presti told Carlson on Wednesday night that about 25 New York City deputy sheriffs have since created a blockade in front of Mac’s Public House that had previously declared itself an autonomous zone in an attempt to remain open, thereby preventing any entry. “There’s no way anyone can get in right now,” Presti explained. Authorities have already revoked the pub’s liquor license for defying the regulations imposed by Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Although the attorney did most of the talking during the remote interview on FNC’s Tucker Carlson Tonight from outside the establishment, Presti also indicated that the number of confirmed coronavirus cases linked to the pub thus-far has totaled zero.

Presti emphasized that his pre-arrest meeting with the sheriffs, which apparently numbered 15, was cordial, but Attorney Gelormino said that didn’t help much in the end.

“We were peaceful, quiet, respectful, and cordial the whole entire time. I told my clients to be that way. Everybody acted that way. At the end of the day, after giving out over $50,000 in fines and fining me and giving me four summons for just representing my client in a polite respectful manner, they gave us $50,000 in fines throughout the building and wind up arresting Danny, putting him in handcuffs, and charging him with disorderly conduct when he never raised his voice and in his own building that he’s the leaseholder on.”

Alluding to the locals that showed up to back the co-owners, Gelormino noted that “We are peacefully protesting. No rioting, no looting…But we have 1,500 Staten Islanders in a peaceful protest. Protesting and supporting business owners, local business owners, and Danny and Keith [McAlarney], and the actions they took to stand up for themselves and Staten Islanders and business owners everywhere.”

Gelormino went on to underscore that Cuomo’s restrictions appear to lack common sense, logic, and may be politicized:

“[The people] are protesting the fact that the governor and all of his wisdom split Staten Island in half and considered the south shore of Staten Island an orange zone and the north shore of Staten Island a yellow zone. Just a block and a half away from Mac’s tavern, literally a block and a half, you can go sit down and have a burger and a beer but at Mac’s tavern, you can’t do it.”

“And coincidentally, Tucker, the south shore of Staten Island did not vote for Gov. Cuomo or Mayor de Blasio…We’re going to assume — I’m not a scientist, I’m an attorney — that the COVID virus doesn’t stop at the railroad tracks where you can go eat a block away. I’m assuming the COVID virus doesn’t stop there. But in Governor Cuomo’s wisdom, I have no idea what science they’ve used.”

New York City is experiencing a crime wave, and the deployment of so many deputies in a peaceful scenario seems disproportionate to sound law enforcement priorities. Carlson may have been alluding to this when he noted that “Danny was arrested in a city where people push human beings in front of subway trains and get away with it.”

During the interview, Presti drew a clear distinction between the NYPD which they support fully, and whom he described as “really good guys,” and the Sheriff’s Department, which operates under the direction of the city’s finance department.
