CNN’s Brianna Keilar breaks, launches lengthy attack against Dems blowing off their own COVID rules

Democrats recently caught violating their own coronavirus orders have triggered even liberal CNN to call them out for their hypocrisy.

CNN anchor Brianna Keilar slammed Democrats on Wednesday for lecturing constituents about their compliance with coronavirus restrictions while exempting themselves from the same rules. Keilar called out the offenders in a segment Wednesday as she highlighted examples of officials caught saying one thing but doing another.

“A number of Democratic leaders apologizing or reversing course after multiple occurrences of ‘do as I say, not as I do,'” Keilar began. “They have been caught not following their own coronavirus guidelines.”

She then unpacked a long list of Democrats who have been exposed recently, such as San Francisco Mayor London Breed, who attended a birthday party at an exclusive Napa Valley restaurant after she threatened to close all indoor dining in the city due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.

“We have to continue to do our part to distance ourselves from one another and to limit our activities,” the Democrat mayor said in the clip shared on CNN.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom was caught last month at the same posh location, The French Laundry, the day before Breed, and issued an apology after he was called out.

Keilar ripped Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl for her hypocrisy as well, after she voted to close outdoor dining last week but was then caught eating at a restaurant before the order took effect. San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo attended a large Thanksgiving gathering with elderly relatives, violating his own Thanksgiving guidelines after telling his constituents to cancel holiday plans and stay home.

Keilar also pointed out the hypocrisy of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock who urged others to stay home over Thanksgiving but was caught flying to Mississippi to spend the holiday with his wife and daughter. Hancock’s apology for making “decisions that were born of my heart and not my head,” was slammed by Keilar.

“But to be clear, this isn’t a matter of interpretation. He did the exact opposite of what he told everyone else to do,” the CNN senior political correspondent said.

She had a similar rebuke for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo who ordered residents to limit gatherings over the holiday and suggested they stay home. The Democrat leader changed his own plans after a backlash when it was revealed he would be spending the holiday visiting his 89-year-old mother and other family members.

The Democrat mayor of Austin, Texas, came under fire this week as it was revealed that his video message to residents of the city urging them to “stay home” was actually shot at a Mexican resort in Cabo San Lucas where he was vacationing at the time.

“The past few weeks brought into relief a pattern of leaders failing to lead by example, asking Americans to make sacrifices that they themselves are unwilling to make and appearing sorry only when they are caught,” Keilar said in the five-minute CNN segment on Wednesday.

“Trust is built slowly, but it evaporates faster than reservations at a fancy restaurant,” she added, after calling out the out-of-touch Democrats for their double standards.

“A lot of these leaders, they are looking across the aisle to blame Republicans who aren’t taking mask-wearing seriously,” she concluded. “But maybe it’s time they also look in the mirror and ask themselves if that amuse-bouche was really worth it.”
