Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera, infamous for committing one of the biggest blunders in journalism of the 20th century, mocked network host Jesse Watters this past Thursday for giving credence to President Donald Trump’s allegations that the results of the 2020 presidential election were corrupted by impropriety and voter fraud.
During a discussion that evening on Fox News’ “The Five,” the hosts and contributors talked specifically about the allegations that had been highlighted at a presser earlier that day by the president’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, and his partners.
Watters argued from the get-go that Giuliani and his team, including famed attorney Sidney Powell, had offered enough evidence to at least merit an investigation.
“If you do have a pattern here [of impropriety/fraud] — and that’s what he’s alleging, there’s a conspiracy that’s happening in all of these deep blue precincts in the swing states, where after election night they start inputting fraudulent or invalid Biden votes — that needs to be looked into,” he said.
He then listed off some of their specific allegations:
“They have 200 sworn affidavits alone in Wayne County in Detroit saying they were backdating ballots that came in after election day; they were allowing double counting.”
“They have three sworn affidavits that said a van came at 4:30 in the morning, dropped off garbage cans filled [with] ballots, and then they were illegally counted, sometimes processed three times in a row and tabulated when they thought that no Republican poll watchers were there.”
“And they go through states [in which] they say there was backdating, there was double counting, there was over-voting, voter intimidation in Pennsylvania. They said the Equal Protection Clause was violated in Wisconsin. They say the state constitution was violated when they sent out hundreds of unsolicited ballots.”
After listing some examples, he added, “So let it go through [the court system], and we’ll see what happens.”
That’s when Rivera pounced.
“Come on, Jesse! I mean really, come on!” the Fox contributor, infamous for the failed “Al Capone Vault” debacle of 1986, blurted out in exasperation.
“The Clinton Foundation? George Soros? Hugo Chavez? I’m probably the only person in this building that has actually met Yugo Chavez,” he continued.
But those theories had nothing to do with Watter’s point …
“I didn’t say anything about that. I talked about the sworn affidavits,” Watters countered.
Yet Rivera proceeded to double down.
“An international conspiracy? Why not Elvis?” he exclaimed.
With that logic, why not Al Capone? *cough*.
“I didn’t mention anything like that. I’m talking sworn affidavits. You’re a lawyer, Geraldo. You’re a lawyer, and as a lawyer, you should recognize the validity of that,” Watters responded.
Rivera then turned his attention to trashing Giuliani.
“I love the president. I wanted him to win this election. What I saw with Rudy Giuliani, who I’ve known for decades, was bizarre, it was unfocused, it was conspiracy theory this and that,” he maintained.
“When you have evidence that you suggest, what’s the lawsuit that that evidence attaches to? You can’t go to a court and say it’s fraud, judge, prove it for me. That’s not the way it happens.”
Watters countered by noting that the Trump campaign has multiple pending lawsuits in multiple states.
“They’re going to submit this evidence, and then there’s going to be a judge who’s going to rule on this evidence,” he said.
But according to Rivera, this isn’t enough — and to suggest otherwise is to give people “false hope.”
“Geraldo, you as an American should want everybody to be confident in the results of the election. And if you don’t pursue these fraud allegations, half the country is going to feel like this is crooked,” he said.
Fellow show host Greg Gutfeld then jumped in to provide backup. He noted that one, the media have completely dismissed and ignored the evidence that has thus far been presented, and two, the legal process takes time to happen.
“We’re not at the end of a legal process. Today was an overview when they discussed it, and nothing has been ruled out,” he said.
He added, “If the shoe was on the other foot and we were talking about malfeasance by Republicans, these reporters that smirk on television all the time would actually be doing the reporting, they would be actually doing the investigating. It’s not investigating just to listen to a press conference and saying there’s no evidence.”
This is also true, as evidenced by Democrats and their media allies peddling the baseless Russian collusion delusion hoax and conspiracy theory for years on end.
“The reason why you can’t find evidence [is] you’re not looking. So right now they’re looking, give them a shot,” Gutfeld continued.
“You allowed for Russian collusion for four years. Give a couple weeks on this. Instead of acting like this is some kind of personal affront, just treat it like news.”
Yes, but for members of the mainstream establishment press to treat Trump’s allegations “like news,” they’d have to be actual journalists.
But sadly, there doesn’t appear to be a single real journalist among them …
