Another day, another Democrat hypocrite …

The coronavirus pandemic has inadvertently exposed a large number of Democrat hypocrites, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and now California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Last week the veritable “coronavirus tyrant,” as some have dubbed him, and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, attended a crowded outdoor birthday party for one of his political advisers, according to reporting from the San Francisco Chronicle.

“The dinner the night of Nov. 6 at the famed French Laundry in Yountville in Napa County brought together at least 12 people to celebrate the 50th birthday of Jason Kinney, a longtime friend and adviser to Newsom who is also a partner at the lobbying firm Axiom Advisors,” the Chronicle confirmed Friday.

Attending a private birthday bash would have been perfectly acceptable had Newsom not spent the last eight or so months imposing rigid coronavirus lockdown rules on his constituents and lecturing them about the need to limit gatherings.

“State guidelines limit gatherings, defined as ‘social situations that bring together people from different households at the same time in a single space or place,’ to no more than three households,” the Chronicle’s report continued.

“Representatives for Kinney and Newsom declined to specify how many households the diners represented, but did not dispute that it was more than three.”

The report broke four days after the California governor issued yet another lecture in which he harangued state residents for “letting their guard down” amid the pandemic.

“People are letting their guard down. They’re taking their masks off. They’re starting to get together outside of their household cohorts. They’re starting to see businesses reopen and we’re starting, again, to see more people mixing,” he complained.

What makes Newsom’s repeat hypocrisy especially offensive to his growing legion of exasperated critics is that this week his administration released some of the strictest Thanksgiving coronavirus guidelines in the nation.

The draconian rules mandate that Thanksgiving gatherings be held outside, that attendees keep masks on at all times except when eating, that attendees only be allowed to use a bathroom if it’s been properly sanitized, that families keep six feet apart from one another, that the gathering last no longer than two hours and that there’s no singing.

It’s not clear how far apart the different families/groups who attended the birthday bash last week in County County had sat. Nor is it clear how long the party lasted and whether or not their bathroom was properly sanitized.

Gavin has for his part issued a non-apology apology by effectively blaming his decision to attend a birthday party bash on the restaurant.

“While our family followed the restaurant’s health protocols and took safety precautions, we should have modeled better behavior and not joined the dinner,” he reportedly said in a statement.

The subtle insinuation was that the restaurant was at fault for not holding him and other patrons to higher standards.

Neither Newsom nor his office have addressed the matter on Twitter. Instead, the governor has continued to lecture his constituents.

Look:

The only difference is that his lecturing is now provoking a backlash.

Look (*Language warning):

It really does appear at times as if elite Democrat politicians — and activists as well — believe that they’re better than everybody else and thus deserving of special perks and privileges not afforded to everybody else, i.e., the peasants.

Like Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said after she was busted last spring getting a haircut in defiance of her own stay-at-home order, “I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media, and I’m out in the public eye.”

Simply put, “I’m special, and you’re not.”

Perhaps this ought to be the Democrat Party’s new slogan?
