Arizona was declared a win for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on election night and many are thanking Cindy McCain.
The widow of the late Senator John McCain is a registered Republican who openly endorsed President Donald Trump’s Democratic opponent, citing the decades-long friendship between the Bidens and the McCains, and openly criticized the President. Biden secured the 11 electoral votes in the typically red state of Arizona, sparking an outcry from the Trump camp as Mark Kelly also defeated incumbent GOP Senator Martha McSally.
The early call for Biden in Arizona had many people crying foul, targeting Fox News for first making the announcement before more votes were in. While flipping Arizona to blue was a happy surprise for Democrats, many Republicans saw McCain’s endorsement of Biden as a betrayal of the party and a reason for the GOP losing the state.
Trump won the state against Hillary Clinton by 3.5 percentage points back in 2016.

“Congratulations Cindy McCain. You helped cost us Arizona,” conservative radio and talk show host Mark Levin tweeted soon after Fox News called it for Biden.

Many Democrats on social media agreed that McCain had affected the outcome and were thrilled with the results.

McCain campaigned with Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris when they visited Arizona last month. She also appeared in a Biden campaign ad that aired across the state. On the evening of the election, she penned an op-ed published in USA Today explaining why Biden was “the best choice” as president.
“My husband believed in straight talk and country first. So do I. Joe Biden is the right choice to be president at this pivotal time in the country’s history,” she wrote. “He will be a leader whom all Americans can count on to put country above party, patriotism above partisanship, and national interest ahead of his own. Most important, Joe will unite a deeply divided country and bring together all Americans to address and overcome the great challenges we face.”
“I can vouch for these qualifications, because I have known him for four decades. He will have the vote of this proud Republican on Tuesday,” McCain added.
.@cindymccain-I am going to remain a Republican but this is [about] far more than party politics. We have a president who is not listening to experts. He’s putting people’s lives in danger. He’s belittled our troops… Americans deserve better. That’s why I’ve endorsed Joe #AMJoy pic.twitter.com/3QprpMZUoi

The early call of Arizona for Biden set off a firestorm of criticism, with Fox News coming under fire as the first to declare the state a win for the former vice president. The Associated Press later called the state shortly before 3 a.m. EST, with 80% reporting. The Senate race also delivered Democrats a win as Kelly beat McSally, 53% to 47%.
“It’s far too early to call the election in Arizona,” Republican Gov. Doug Ducey tweeted just before midnight. “Election Day votes are not fully reported, and we haven’t even started to count early ballots dropped off at the polls. In AZ, we protected Election Day. Let’s count the votes — all the votes — before making declarations.”
Fox News decision desk director Arnon Mishkin stood by the network’s call, and told anchors, “I’m sorry, the President is not going to be able to take over and eliminate that 5 point lead.”
And for those who believe that “revenge is a dish best served cold,” Cindy McCain played a major role in making sure that Trump lost Arizona, home state of her beloved husband, an American hero. What must John McCain be thinking as he looks down and watches this happen tonight?

And while Democrats poured out their gratitude to McCain for her part in backing Biden, plenty of others on Twitter said otherwise:
A RINO through and through.

Cindy McCain is not a Republican! She doesn’t care if she cost republicans the race! She is one of the elitist swamp-dwellers, and she is an enemy of our country!!

No matter how much you dislike Trump, how do you encourage people to vote for socialism vs freedom?

Cindy McCain is sore at Trump. She’s not thinking about what’s best for the American people. She just hates Trump so much that’s all on her little mind.
