The Federal Bureau of Investigation has seen its reputation take a beating over the targeting of Donald Trump, both as a candidate and then as President-elect Trump, and for its handling of the probe into Hillary Clinton’s private server.

These events took place during the Obama administration and even though Trump would fire then-director James Comey soon after taking office, replacing him with current director Christopher Wray, the bureau has yet to give the American people much reason for confidence.

Add to the mix that the FBI reportedly had Hunter Biden’s laptop in its possession during the Democratic Party’ sham impeachment of Trump and it’s understandable why Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., would rip the bureau for opening an investigation into an incident in Texas, where pro-Trump vehicles opted to escort a Biden campaign bus.

“If you need any further proof that the FBI will look for any reason to target Trump supporters,” Gaetz tweeted

There was controversy over an incident between one of the pro-Trump vehicles and a Biden supporting motorist trailing the bus.

To the surprise of no one, the media ran with the claim that a Trump supporter tried to “ram” a white SUV accompanying the bus, but video footage captured that vehicle clearly steering into a lane occupied by the pro-Trump truck.

The SUV had been directly behind the bus and appeared to be trying to force its way back into position after the bus began to change lanes, but instead straddled two lanes before returning to the initial lane it was traveling in.

Photos of tire marks on the side of the SUV were shared on social media as evidence that the pro-Trump vehicle was the aggressor, but this is misleading.

It didn’t help matters that a Biden campaign spokesperson claimed the pro-Trump caravan “attempted to slow the bus down and run it off the road,” according to Forbes.

There does not appear to be any video evidence to support the claim.

Trump responded to the FBI announcement by calling attention to the lawlessness seen in many American cities.

“In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong,” he tweeted. “Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA, who run around burning down our Democrat run cities and hurting our people!”

Should the president be reelected, it’s widely believed that he will soon fire Wray.

Here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
