President Donald Trump slammed Fox News on Tuesday for airing former President Barack Obama’s campaign speech on behalf of 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden, prompting a defense from network anchor Bret Baier, who said “it’s what we do.”

Obama appeared before a sparse crowd in Orlando, Fla., and accused the president of “incompetence” in handling the coronavirus pandemic — the drive-in rally took place outside Camping World Stadium and reportedly drew 273 cars, though witnesses on the ground said there were empty cars among them.

Without referencing Trump’s criticism, Baier laid out a case for Fox News’ campaign coverage on Special Report.

“You’ve been watching President Trump in Salem Wisconsin speaking for almost 42 minutes so far in front of another big crowd,” Baier said. “We brought you his speech in Lansing, Michigan, live earlier today. We also brought you live speeches from Joe Biden in both Warm Springs and Atlanta, Georgia, and former president Obama’s speech in Orlando, Florida. All of those carried live on on Fox News channel earlier today.”

“It’s what we do to cover an important election fairly,” he continued. “Fair, balanced, and unafraid. We are seven days from election night. We promise we are going to cover it all fairly and get in the news around the world in between the fast-moving political developments.”

Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the network earlier in the day.

“Now @FoxNews is playing Obama’s no crowd, fake speech for Biden, a man he could barely endorse because he couldn’t believe he won. Also, I PREPAID many Millions of Dollars in Taxes,” he tweeted.

Prior to that entry, the president said Fox News was “the biggest difference between now and 2016,” adding that the network is “a whole different deal.”

Fair or not, given that CNN and MSNBC all but dedicate 24/7 coverage to destroying Trump, he looks to Fox News, the only major right-leaning cable network, to strike a balance.

CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy chimed in to slam Baier for “justifying” why Fox News carries Trump rallies — claiming that Trump “uses air time to brazenly lie and spread misinfo.”

To further cement that reality that he and his network are fully in the tank for Biden, Darcey then declared that Obama and Biden only speak the gospel truth.

Baier responded with a quip about covering elections “fairly.”

“Thanks for watching Oliver.. we can always count on you to tune in. Did ALL of the cable nets cover all of those speeches LIVE today? I didn’t watch. I assume they did to cover an election fairly. Have a good night,” he tweeted.

Darcy responded by doubling down on his earlier assessment that Trump “lies and lies” — justifying his own network’s abject bias against the president — while “others” don’t.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to Darcy’s misguided efforts from Twitter:
