A clip of Democratic nominee Joe Biden seemingly forgetting who he was running against seems to have struck a nerve with liberals.

Flanked by wife/handler Jill Biden, the 77-year-old former vice president was talking about what kind of country America will be if President Trump gets reelected — only he twice uttered the name “George,” which was widely seen as him confusing Trump with former President George W. Bush.

However, in running interference for the Democratic nominee, his liberal media allies are now saying that Biden was talking about raging liberal comedian George Lopez.

Lost in the mix is that Biden frequently slurs his words and has had more than a few moments where he struggles to put forth a coherent sentence, as his train of thought fails him.

In the clip, Biden was on a Zoom call that included Lopez, who had just asked the candidate why people who aren’t planning to vote should cast a ballot.

In responding, Biden clearly says “four more years of George uh…,” and Jill Biden did not think he was referring to the comedian, as she can be seen uttering Trump’s name under her breath — while trying to mask a look of panic on her face.

Some in the media seem to think that just because they say something, that makes it true — you might call it the Goebbels effect — but there’s one thing evident that can’t be disputed, Biden got confused.

We can only hope former Washington Post columnist Dave Weigel stretched before making the reach he did, because he’s going pull something otherwise.

CNN’s Brian Stelter reported on NBC’s updated version of Biden’s comments on the Today Show:

Biden also got confused about his policy offering “free” college education during a 60 Minutes interview that aired on Sunday, misstating the cost by half.

“I can send every qualified person to a 4 year college in their state for $150 billion,” Biden said. “I can make sure every single person who qualifies for community college can go and we’d still have a lot of money left over.”

CBS News host Norah O’Donnell told viewers that after the interview, Biden’s staff “told us he misspoke and that the cost of free public college could be twice as much as he said.”

Trump seized on Biden seemingly forgetting his name at a rally Monday in Allentown, Pa., which makes it more understandable why the media was willing to walk out on such a precarious ledge to defend Biden.

The president said that he was “running against the worst candidate in the history of presidential politics.”

“Can you even imagine losing to a guy like this?” he told supporters. “Actually I wish he was a good and even a great candidate because if something happened you’d feel a little better. But can you imagine? He can’t remember my name.”

Of course, it’s a good thing for the right when Democrats are reduced to explaining away Biden’s latest flub.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
