The Florida Police Chiefs Association has come out in support of Donald Trump’s reelection in the organization’s first-ever endorsement of a presidential candidate.

In remarks posted online Friday, Jeff Pearson, chief of the Satellite Beach Police Department and head of the association, said he was “honored to announce our endorsement” of the president.

“Time and time again, President Trump has demonstrated his unwavering support for law enforcement and for the men and women that risk their lives to protect the peace,” Pearson said.

“Just this year so far, 216 law enforcement officers in the United States have died in the line of duty,” he continued, noting the figure is “a 93 percent increase from” 2019.

“We salute President Trump for his commitment to honoring our nation’s fallen law enforcement officers and remembering their sacrifice,” Pearson continued. “President Trump’s support of the law enforcement is unmatched, and he continues supporting law enforcement by ensuring we have the tools, the training, and the information that we need to protect our communities.”

“While other politicians are opening attacking law enforcement, President Trump signed the Mental Health and Wellness Act to provide essential services” for police, he continued, adding that Trump “has done more for police” than any previous president.

The president tweeted his appreciation for the endorsement, noting, “I was honored to receive the first ever Presidential Endorsement from the Florida Police Chiefs Association. Thank you, I will NEVER let you down!”

The Florida Police Chiefs Association represents more than 900 chiefs throughout the state and is the third-largest organization of its kind in the country, Pearson said.

A year ago, the International Union of Police Associations officially endorsed President Trump’s reelection, saying at the time he had “done more for law enforcement in the past two-and-a-half years than was accomplished in the eight years that preceded his election.”

Favorable policies cited by the IUPA included the Trump administration’s resumption of providing police departments with surplus military gear; directing the Justice Department to develop strategies to prosecute people who attack officers; signed the Mental Health and Wellness Act and resumed capital punishment of federal prisoners.

“Every top Democrat currently running for this office has vilified the police and made criminals out to be victims,” Sam Cabral, the organization’s president, said at the time. “They seem to take any union’s support for granted. Many of them still refer to the tragedy in Ferguson as a murder, despite the conclusions of every investigative inquiry to the contrary.”

“While his candor ruffles the feathers of the left, I find it honest and refreshing,” Cabral added. “He stands with America’s law enforcement officer and we will continue to stand with him.”

Last month, the 355,000-member Fraternal Order of Police also endorsed the president and did so unanimously.

“Public safety will undoubtedly be a main focus for voters in this year’s election,” said FOP President Patrick Yoes, Fox News reported. “Look at what the national discourse has focused on for the last six months. President Trump has shown time after time that he supports our law enforcement officers and understands the issues our members face every day.”

Other police organizations have abandoned Biden and Democrats, as well.

“For Joe Biden, police are shaking their heads because he used to be a stand-up guy who backed law enforcement,” Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, which backed Obama in 2008 and 2012, said in June. “But it seems in his old age, for whatever reason, he’s writing a sad final chapter when it comes to supporting law enforcement.”
