President Trump said he’s willing to approve pork-free, targeted coronavirus relief measures such as stimulus checks for Americans and aid to struggling small businesses and airlines. However, he said he won’t cave to Democrats’ attempts to demand “$2.4 trillion dollars to bail out poorly run, high-crime Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19.”
Trump made the remarks shortly after calling off negotiations amid accusations that Speaker Nancy Pelosi has hijacked the talks to push through massive federal bailouts for Democrat-run cities.
President Trump tweeted: “If I am sent a Stand Alone Bill for Stimulus Checks ($1,200), they will go out to our great people IMMEDIATELY. I am ready to sign right now. Are you listening, Nancy?”

Several minutes before that, Trump tweeted: “The House and Senate should IMMEDIATELY approve $25 billion for Airline Payroll Support and $135 billion for Paycheck Protection Program for Small Business.”
Trump added: “Both of these will be fully paid for with unused funds from the Cares Act. Have this money. I will sign now!”

Several hours earlier, President Trump rejected what he considered a pork-filled COVID relief proposal from House Democrats.
He then urged congressional Republicans to pause the coronavirus relief negotiations until after the election and to focus instead on confirming Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.
For months, the White House and the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives have failed to agree on a second coronavirus relief package.
Republicans have accused Nancy Pelosi of hijacking the negotiations to expand and permanently change welfare programs and to give stimulus checks to illegal immigrants.
Republicans noted that Democrats are demanding the following concessions — none of which have anything to do with providing relief to Americans:
- Stimulus checks for illegal immigrants
- No-cash bail
- Mass prisoner release, including for violent criminals
- Nationwide ballot harvesting
- Banning voter ID.
Obviously House Dems are going to have to drop some very absurd demands for there to be another coronavirus response bill, such as:
-cashless bail
-mass prison release, including violent criminals
-nationwide ballot harvesting
-Voter ID ban
-stimulus checks to illegal immigrants— Lee Zeldin (@RepLeeZeldin) October 6, 2020
Republican Congressman Mark Green, a physician, tweeted:
“This [Democrat] bill was a partisan laundry list with blue state bailouts and relief $$$ for illegal aliens.”
I just walked off the House floor.
We got the corrected #HeroesAct from @SpeakerPelosi mere hours before we voted on it.

What did @SpeakerPelosi include in her coronavirus “relief bill?”
❌$600M taken from law enforcement
❌Bailouts for poorly-managed blue states
❌Federalized election regulations
It’s easy to see how this furthers the left’s agenda, but how does it help the American people?

In March, the Democrats had proposed a “coronavirus emergency funding bill” that included taxpayer financing of numerous foreign projects, which were unrelated to the coronavirus crisis impacting Americans.
Republicans remarked that these projects do not put “America first” or help Americans struggling through the COVID shutdowns:
- $435 million for “Global Health Programs”
- $300 million for “International Disaster Assistance”
- $264 million for “Diplomatic Programs”
- $100 million for “Worldwide Security Protection”
- $250 million for the “Economic Support Fund.”
At the time, Congressman Matt Gaetz said he opposed the Democrats’ relief proposal because the agenda items that Democrats demanded had nothing to do with COVID.
“Everyone is for testing. Everyone is for medical infrastructure like ventilators,” Gaetz said. “Where Republicans have challenges is where we have legislative provisions that FOREVER change entitlement programs.”
Gaetz added: “Unfortunately, we see the Speaker of the House trying to jam the President. Putting reformations to abortion laws and abortion practices into this legislative package as a way to make Republicans and the President look like we don’t support [giving aid to Americans].”
