In what some suspect is a bid to protect poor ol’ Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced Wednesday that it intends to modify the way presidential debates are run so as to keep things “more orderly.”

“Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues. The CPD will be carefully considering the changes that it will adopt and will announce those measures shortly,” the commission reportedly said in a statement.

The changes being considered by the commission will reportedly be implemented in time for the remaining Oct. 15th and Oct 22nd debates.

While the commission declined to offer specifics, a “source familiar with the commission’s deliberations” later told CBS News that one option that’s being considered is adding a tool that would allow the moderator to cut off the participants’ microphones.

In other words, future presidential debate moderators would be able to cut off President Donald Trump’s microphone if he were to keep interrupting Biden as he had during the first 2020 presidential debate Tuesday.

Of course, Biden also interrupted the president several times, though for some reason his interruptions have been given less attention by the media.

So have the interruptions by moderator Chris Wallace, who reportedly interrupted the president at least 76 times, though he interrupted Biden only 15 times.

Speaking at a rally in Minnesota late Wednesday, the president accused Wallace of acting like his debate opponent instead of a debate moderator.

As an example, he cited several instances in which Wallace cut him off as he was in the process of calling out Biden. It was as if he’d been trying to protect the Democrat nominee.

“Did you see last night … I said, ‘Sleepy Joe, name one law enforcement group that supports you.’ Then, Chris Wallace says, ‘Don’t do that.’ Can you believe this guy? I was debating two people last night,” the president pointed out.

“I was debating two people last night. … So, disappointed in Fox. I’m not just running against Joe Biden. I’m running against the corrupt far-left media, socialists, and communists, and the Democrat Party, and the special interests who’ve made a living bleeding our country dry.”

This belief that Wallace behaved more like a debater versus a moderator is shared by others:

The statement by the Commission on Presidential Debates contained no criticism of Wallace, nor did it contain any mention of implementing additional moderator rules.

In fact, the statement included praise for the otherwise embattled moderator …

“The Commission is grateful to Chris Wallace for the professionalism and skill he brought to last night’s debate and intends to ensure that additional tools to maintain order are in place for the remaining debates,” the statement read.

Responding to the commission’s announcement, Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh accused its rule change of being motivated by politics.

“They’re only doing this because their guy got pummeled last night. President Trump was the dominant force and now Joe Biden is trying to work the refs. They shouldn’t be moving the goalposts and changing the rules in the middle of the game,” he reportedly said.

Wallace meanwhile has actually come out against the mic-cutting proposal.

“As a practical matter, even if the president’s microphone had been shut, he still could have continued to interrupt, and it might well have been picked up on Biden’s microphone, and it still would have disrupted the proceedings in the hall,” he said to The New York Times.

He added that cutting off the microphones would be disrespectful to the candidates’ supporters.

“People have to remember, and too many people forget, both of these candidates have the support of tens of millions of Americans,” he said.

That’s true …

As for the president, his response to the commission’s rule-change proposal has been frankly savage, much like his debate performance:
