A motorist faces charges of suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after plowing through a crowd of Trump supporters in Yorba Linda, Calif., on Saturday, September 26, resulting in two people suffering injuries.
The Trump backers waving American flags, Trump banners, and chanting “U.S.A.” were on at the scene as a counter-protest against an event organized by an apparently BLM-aligned group called Caravan of Justice when the incident occurred at or near the Yorba Linda Public Library parking lot. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s office, the collision left one man with two broken legs and a woman with unspecified major injuries. Both were rushed to the hospital. Cops reportedly identified the driver of the vehicle allegedly as a Caravan for Justice member, ABC News reported.
The incident was preceded by verbal altercations and some physical scuffles between the two groups. At about 2:40 p.m. local time, deputies declared the incident an unlawful assembly and ordered the crowd — which numbered about 250 — to disperse. Eventually, the situation calmed down, and authorities were able to reopen the roads, including Imperial Highway, which was the epicenter of the original rally.
Caravan for Justice, the group which organized the event that unfolded about 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles on Saturday, “campaigns against police violence,” the Orange County Register explained.
The event reportedly was in the context of demanding justice for Breonna Taylor, the Louisville woman shot and killed by police who were attempting to serve a warrant.
“It was not immediately clear how fast the sedan was going. The back windshield was broken out and appeared to have a flagpole sticking out of it. The front windshield was smashed,” the news outlet added.
In the videos embedded below, deputies — including those on motorcycles –responded immediately and pulled over the vehicle in question. The driver is reportedly a 40-year-old woman from nearby Long Beach who was booked into the Orange County Jail on $1 million bail. She is due in court on September 29. (** Language warning)
