A frustrated woman vocally barged into what apparently was her granddaughter’s middle school Zoom class to complain about introducing BLM into the day’s lesson in a TikTok video that has gone viral. TikTok user @stayflyest labelled the clip, which so far has resulted in 1.7 million views, “Karen found in Zoom class going off.”
The grandmother was upset that BLM was mentioned in the class discussion. The teacher calmly responded to the interruption that “all we’re talking about are historical events,” however, adding shortly thereafter that the students were asked to discuss the most important historical event in their lifetime.
The elder wasn’t buying it, however. “No, you’re talking about BLM and all that stuff. And we’re not going to talk about it, unless you want to hear what I have to say…this is language arts class, not a political class.”
She added, “And Barack Obama was biracial. He wasn’t just black. He should have owned both sides of his family.”
When the grandma, who has become known as “Zoom Karen” by media outlets, asked why BLM showed up in the conversation in the first place, the teacher claimed that the granddaughter brought it up. That was quickly denied by both the young girl and another student, however.

Public school teachers across the country have been accused of inserting left-wing propaganda, rather than American history in all of its dimensions, good and bad, into lesson plans. Reports have also emerged that teachers don’t want parents or others snooping on online classes (which are ongoing in areas where schools remain closed because of COVID) for this reason.
Although @stayflyest is based in southern California according to the TikTok account, the school in question has not yet been identified.
Earlier this month, social media erupted when a public school teacher in Palm Beach County, Fla., appeared to be cheerleading for the Democrats during a virtual fifth-grade class. In video clips that found its way to Twitter, a male teacher gushed about Kamala Harris and her chances to become the first woman president because of Biden’s age. “If he wins, she wins,” he claimed about Harris. An unidentified voice off-camera interjected at one point that “he’s got some damn nerve trying to indoctrinate my grandson.”
